Saveetha College of Pharmacy, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS) Chennai, in collaboration with the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA) Hospital Pharmacy Division, celebrated National Pharmacovigilance Week (NPW 2025).
This initiative aimed to raise awareness among healthcare professionals, regulators, researchers, and the general public about the importance of actively reporting adverse drug reactions (ADRs) using simplified digital platforms.
The three-day NPW 2025 event (September 17-19, 2025) was Chaired by Prof. Dr. Ramaiyan Velmurugan (Professor and Principal, SIMATS College of Pharmacy) and organized by Dr. Rathinavelu Mohanraj (EC Member IPA Hospital Pharmacy Division, and Associate Professor, SIMATS College of Pharmacy).
On Day 1 (September 17, 2025), there were two sessions of Expert Talk and Training led by Dr. C. Deena Sangeetha (Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, and AMC Coordinator at Saveetha Medical College and Hospital, Chennai) focusing on Pharmacovigilance and Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) reporting; and Dr. Nagaraj Vayyavuru (Managing Director of Health Ethics PvT Ltd, and Head of India Operations at Vichag Research, UK) discussing Biopharma Careers: Finding your Path from Pv to Beyond, held in Marutham Hall, SIMATS, Chennai.
Day 2 (September 18, 2025) featured a Digital Event with three distinguished speakers from the healthcare sector, academia, and research. Dr. B. Arun Pandian (Clinical Pharmacist at Kauvery Hospitals, Chennai) presented on Measures to Improve Medication Safety; Dr. Uppara Veerendra (CAC Member at AMC RDT Hospital, and Assistant Professor at RIPER, Autonomous) discussed the ABCs of ADR reporting: From Observation to Action; and Dr. Dipak D. Bharambe (Manager of Materials and Clinical Pharmacy at P D Hinduja Hospital and MRC, Mumbai) spoke on Pharmacy Practice in India: Coming-of-age.
On Day 3 (September 19, 2025), the forenoon session included a Webinar on Orientation of ADR reporting tools and UpToDate Lexidrug presented by Mr. Vikas Arora (Director at Infokart India Pvt Ltd.). In the afternoon, Mr. Sony Akkara (International Certified Careers Coach, Founder and Executive Director of Eazylink Academy, Kerala) discussed Global Career Opportunities in Pv and Medication Safety, in Marutham Hall, SIMATS, Chennai.
