Pfizer to shut its Chennai and Aurangabad plants

Pfizer Healthcare India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Pfizer Inc., USA to shut down its two Indian plants located in Chennai and Aurangabad. These both plants are part of its international acquisition of Hospira in 2015.

The Hindu Businessline reported on 08th january that Pfizer has conducted a thorough evaluation of the IKKT (Irungattukottai- near to chennai) and Aurangabad sites and concluded that due to the significant long-term loss of product demand, manufacturing at these sites is not viable.

Three years back, Pfizer had also sold its Thane based manufacturing facilty.

It may be further noted that these plants did not manufacture any products for Pfizer Limited India or for the domestic India market.

Neraly 1700 employees are working in both facilties and they will be impacted by this decision.
