The newly established interdisciplinary research alliance “Translational DNA- and RNA-based Therapies for Heart Failure” at the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University, which includes academic groups located at the Heidelberg Heart Center (Department of Medicine III, Department of Cardiac Surgery, Department of Pediatric Cardiology, Institute of Physiology and Pathophysiology), the Institute of Pharmacology, and the National Cancer Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT), is offering

The scholarships amount to 1,500 Euro/month.

The alliance, which is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts of Baden- Württemberg, focuses on the preclinical development of molecular therapies against chronic heart failure, a widespread, often fatal disease for which no causative therapies exist.

PhD research projects can be carried out in the areas of (a) therapeutic target identification, (b) cardiac-directed vector evolution, and (c) advanced heart delivery technologies, employing a broad range of cutting-edge research methodologies, disease model organisms and advanced translational research tools. Successful candidates will be enrolled in the newly established “Molecular Cardiology PhD Program” of the Hartmut Hoffmann-Berling International Graduate School of Molecular and Cellular Biology (HBIGS) of Heidelberg University and will participate in its curricular teaching programme.

We invite applications by enthusiastic, committed, creative and highly talented graduate students with a Master's degree or diploma in biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, pharmacy or related fields who wish to join an interdisciplinary research network at one of the leading centers for biomedical sciences in Europe. Successful candidates should have gained some experience in either advanced biochemical, cell biological, molecular genetics techniques or animal and disease models and should be willing to familiarize themselves with new state-of-the-art methodologies.

Applications (Project abbreviation - „TransHeart“) should be submitted online to HBIGS (hbigs.uni-heidelberg.de), which will also administer the evaluation process and the interviews of qualified candidates.

For further questions regarding possible research projects please contact program coordinator Jun.-Prof. Dr. David Hassel (secretariat.most@med.uni-heidelberg.de).

We stand for equal opportunities for women and men. Severely handicapped with the same eligibility will be given priority.
