ABSTRACT:
The diet is selection of food eaten by an individual. A balanced diet is essential for health. It provides the appropriate amounts of all nutrients in the correct proportions to meet body requirements.
An essential nutrient is substances that cannot be made by the body and must be supplied through the diet. Foods are described as carbohydrate or protein because they contain a higher proportion of one or the other. A balanced diet contains all nutrients required for health in appropriate proportions and is normally achieved by eating a variety of foods.

The CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology. Palampur (CSIR-IHBT) is one of the National Institute under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research which is an Autonomous Body. National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) was founded by Sir Robert McCarrison in the year 1918 as ‘Beri-Beri’ Enquiry Unit in a single room laboratory at the Pasteur Institute, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. Within a short span of seven years, this unit blossomed into a "Deficiency Disease Enquiry" and later in 1928, emerged as full-fledged "Nutrition Research Laboratories" (NRL) with Dr. McCarrison as its first Director. It was shifted to Hyderabad in 1958.

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. CSIR covers the entire spectrum of scientific and industrial research of national and international importance.

Abstract:
Budesonide is a corticosteroid, used in the treatment of inflammatory conditions such as asthma and COPD. The present study was undertaken with the aim to formulate and evaluate dry powder inhalers of Budesonide for pulmonary delivery. Dry powder inhalers of Budesonide were prepared using different concentrations of fine lactose and magnesium stearate by Geometric dilution method. The drug-carrrier compatibility study was carried out by FT-IR studies. A total of eleven batches were formulated and evaluated for physical appearance, average fill weight, flow properties, particle size analysis, content uniformity, moisture content and assay. In-vitro drug deposition studies were carried out by using Modified Twin Stage Impinger (TSI) apparatus. Of all eleven batches, the formulation F4, comprising of fine lactose 30% was found to be the best having comparatively higher fine particle fraction (FPF) of 25.32%. The result indicated that the amount of drug that reaches in the lung was higher for formulation F4. Further invivo safety and deposition studies on suitable animal models and human volunteers will give better insight for clinical applications of the Budesonide DPI.
