NIPER, Hyderabad is an institute of national importance declared as such by the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Act, 1998 (“NIPER Act”). It is under the administrative control of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. NIPER, Hyderabad is ranked fifth in India in the Pharmacy category under the National Institutional Ranking Framework, 2025 of the Ministry of Education.

Applications for the post of Director, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Hyderabad are invited from eligible Indian nationals. Eligible persons may either apply or be nominated. Director, NIPER, Hyderabad
Duration : Term of five years, subject to maximum age of 70 years
Expectation : The Director of the institute is its principal academic and executive officer, responsible for its proper administration and academic performance. Accordingly, the Director is expected to ensure proper administration and academic performance, in a manner consistent with the objectives and provisions of the NIPER Act, the rules, statutes and ordinances made thereunder, the decisions of the NIPER Council and the institute’s Board of Governors and Senate established thereunder, and the policies of the Government.
Remuneration : Fixed salary, on contractual basis, of Rs. 2,25,000 per month in Level 17 of the 7th Central Pay Commission pay matrix, subject to the provisions of the NIPER Act and the rules and statutes made thereunder
Other terms and conditions of service : The terms and conditions of service as Director shall be governed by the provisions of the NIPER Act and the statutes made thereunder (accessible using the link : pharma-dept.gov.in/act)

Eligibility
Citizenship : Indian
Education : Doctor of Philosophy and postgraduate degrees, in pharmaceuticals or related areas of science or technology Professional and administrative experience :
(a) Teaching and research experience of at least 20 years;
(b) Strong academic track record, including published research papers of high impact factor in reputed journals;
(c) Work experience of at least 10 years as professor or as scientist (in regular Level 14 and above scale of pay in the 7th Central Pay Commission pay matrix, or its equivalent) at reputed academic or research institutes;
(d) Demonstrated academic leadership;
(e) Extensive practical experience in institutions in the field of pharmaceutical and medical device research and education; and
(f) Relevant administrative experience in a reputed educational or research institution

Applicants who are employees of government bodies, organisations and institutes, etc.
Applicants who are employees of government bodies, organisations and institutes under the purview of the Central Government or the Government of a State or Union territory shall submit application through proper channel in the form for Certificate from Forwarding Authority available on the application form links, along with duly attested copies of Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs) or Annual Performance Appraisal Reports (APARs) for the last five years, duly attested on each page by competent officer in the forwarding organisation. Advance copy of the application should reach before the last date for receipt of applications and the application submitted through proper channel, along with the Certificate from Forwarding Authority and ACRs/APARs should reach latest by 15 days beyond the last date for receipt of applications.

Manner of nomination
The following heads of educational and research institutions may nominate individuals:
(a) Present and past Directors General and Directors of institutions under the Departments of Health Research, Scientific and Industrial Research, Biotechnology and Science and Technology of the Government of India;
(b) Present and past Chancellors and Vice-Chancellors of Central Universities;
(c) Present and past heads of institutes of national importance declared as such by Parliament by law, imparting courses in science and technology disciplines at the postgraduate level;
(d) Present and past heads of institutions of eminence declared as such under the University Grants Commission (Institutions Deemed to be Universities) Regulations, 2016, imparting courses in science and technology disciplines at the postgraduate level. Nominations may be addressed by the last date for receipt of applications to the Chairperson, Search cum Selection Committee at the email address divhead-niper@pharma-dept.gov.in, with the subject “Nomination for post of Director, NIPER, Hyderabad”

Procedure : Identification of suitable individuals would be made through a search- cum-selection process by a Search cum Selection Committee, which consider applications and nominations received and may also consider names in search mode, to recommend a panel for consideration for appointment.

Shortlisted individuals will have to themselves bear expenses involved in appearing for interaction with the Search cum Selection Committee. Appointment as Director will be subject to the outcome of W.P.(C) 4430/2025 in the High Court of Delhi.
