Applications are invited from Indian citizens for filling up of the posts of Scientist ‘H’ on direct recruitment basis in the Department of Biotechnology as per details given below.

Post : Scientist ‘H’

Description : Group ‘A’ Scientific Post (Gazetted)

Scale of Pay : Pay Matrix Level-15 (Rs. 182200-224100/-) in 7th CPC

*Note2 : The vacancies for the post of Scientist ‘H’ are outside the purview of reservation.
*Note3 : All category candidates, including persons with disabilities shall be allowed to apply even if no vacancies are reserved for them. Such candidates will be considered for selection for appointment to the posts on general standard of merit.

Eligibility Conditions :
Nationality : The applicant must be a citizen of India.

Age Limits : The upper age limit for direct recruits shall be 50 years. The crucial Date for determining the age-limit shall be the closing date for receipt of applications from candidates.
Upper age limit shall be relaxable for the Government servants upto five years in accordance with the instructions or orders issued by the Central Government [Department of Personnel & Training’s O.M. No.15012/8/87-Estt.(D) dated 15.10.1987]
Note I : The date of birth, accepted by the Department is that entered in the
Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate or in a certificate recognized by an Indian University as equivalent to Matriculation or in an extract from a Register of Matriculates maintained by a University which extract must be certified by the proper authority of the University or in the Higher Secondary or an equivalent examination certificate. These certificates are required to be submitted only at the time of applying for the post. No other document relating to age like horoscopes, affidavits, birth extracts from Municipal Government Corporation, Service records and the like will be accepted.
Note II : Candidate should note that only the date of birth as recorded in the Matriculation/Secondary Examination certificate or an equivalent certificate on the date of submission of application will be accepted by the Department, and no subsequent request for its change will be considered or granted.
Note III : The candidate should exercise due care while entering their date of birth in the online Application Form for the post. If on verification at any subsequent stage, any variation is found in their date of birth from the one entered in their matriculation or equivalent Examination certificate, disciplinary action will be taken against them by the Department as per the Rules.

Educational Qualification :
Essential : Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in any discipline of Life Sciences or Biotechnology or Biochemistry or Computational or Pharmaceutical or Agricultural or Veterinary Sciences or related disciplines; or Ph.D. in Engineering or Technology - Chemical or Biomedical or Biotechnology or Biopharma; or Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in any branch of medicine from a recognised University or Institute.
Note I : The candidate must hold a valid degree of any of Universities
incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification as on the closing date of receipt of applications.
Note II : Candidates possessing professional and technical qualifications which are recognized by the Government as equivalent to professional and technical degree would also be eligible to apply.

Experience : Minimum twenty years experience in Research and Development in the field of Biotechnology/ Life Sciences after possessing at least Master’s Degree in Physical/ Chemical/ Biological/ Earth-atmospheric/ Environmental/ Mathematical/ Computational and Information/ Agricultural Sciences from a recognized University or Institute or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Biotechnology/ Medicine or Veterinary Sciences or Pharmaceutical Sciences (minimum 4 year degree course) from a recognized University or Institute
Note : The experience for the post of Scientist ‘H’ shall be in responsible position of work in research and development or management and administration or planning or industrial or academic institutions or Science and Technology organizations with a broad perspective of biotechnology.

Duties attached to the post
(i) Provide strategic leadership to R&D programmes in agriculture, health, environment, industrial biotech, biomanufacturing, digital health, data science, and animal biotechnology in alignment with the BioE3 vision of Economy, Environment, and Employment.
(ii) Oversee policy frameworks on biosecurity, biotech regulation, IP rights, DNA profiling legislation, and international collaborations, ensuring effective utilization of public R&D outputs.
(iii) Drive innovation through public-private partnerships, biotech parks, incubators, BioE3 cells and tech transfer mechanisms, with a focus on scaling biotech ecosystems.
(iv) Coordinate BRIC+ institutions, Centres of Excellence, and national facilities to foster industry-academia linkages and enable outcome-oriented, data-informed R&D.

General Conditions

II. The applicants are advised to visit the Department’s website dbtindia.gov.in regularly. Any addendum/corrigendum or any update regarding the recruitment process shall be posted only on the Department's website.
III. Candidates are advised in their own interest to submit online applications much before the closing date and not to wait till the last date to avoid the possibility of disconnection/ inability or failure to login to the portal on account of heavy load on the website during the closing days.
IV. A panel of candidates will be prepared from the candidates called for interview which will remain valid for 1 year from the date of interview.
V. No correspondence will be entertained from candidates who are not called for interview/selected for appointment.
VI. Results of all eligible candidates shall be available on Department’s website. Communications with the Department in this regard shall not be normally entertained.
VII. No request for withdrawal of candidature received from a candidate after he/she has submitted his/her application will be entertained under any circumstances.
