Clinical courses

On behalf of the Department of Zoology, The University of Burdwan, we welcome you all to participate in the UGC-DRS Seminar on Bioprospecting of Natural Products to be held between 05th and 06th December, 2013.

This concept of using biological materials for an industrial or synthetic use is the root of bioprospecting. According to Eric J. Mathur, bioprospecting is the exploration of biodiversity for commercially valuable genetic and biochemical resources. In theory, bioprospecting provides a powerful engine to research valuable compounds, crops, and drugs while learning from and gaining an appreciation for the world around us. The aim of the seminar is to provide a platform for the researchers in the varied field to interact and share the ideas of the emerging trends of research that would inspire the future generations to believe in the strength and contributions of the natural living resources to society. We like to offer the Scientists from different Universities and Research Organizations to interact and enlighten the audience with their novel findings and reassess the existing understanding and knowledge.

The University of Burdwan has been a name of academic excellence for the last fifty four years disseminating knowledge and grooming numerous students to serve the Nation in varied ways. The University academic campus, located in Golapbag, Burdwan, includes the building of the erstwhile Maharajas of Burdwan. With time, several new buildings and infrastructures have been constructed to facilitate newer fields of studies. Besides, being a part of the Ganga Action Plan project, the Department of Zoology carries the legacy of many famous researchers and teachers distinguished in their own field. Successful completion of research projects funded by UGC, CSIR, DST, WBDST, MoEF, ICAR and ICMR substantiates this fact. Many of the alumni are presently renowned Teachers and Scientists in several Universities in India and abroad. The overall credentials of the Department have earned the DST-FIST and UGC-DRS sponsorships. At present the Department is executing several research projects supported by DBT, MoEF, DST, SERB and UGC in varied fields.
