Job Description:
As a Staff Scientist in the Assay Research Group, you will be a technology leader in a discovery-oriented R&D environment by:
• Designing and implementing research studies aimed at new or improved products
• Setting discipline strategy in alignment with functional goals and key scientific objectives
• Collaborating within Abbott and externally to achieve product designs and technology advances; influencing diagnostics industry
• Generating commercial innovation by creating intellectual property
• Applying technology discipline expertise both tactically and strategically

Candidate Profile:
• PhD in Physical or Biological sciences
• Minimum 6 years experience, preferably in an industrial R&D setting, with electrochemical and/or optical sensors, assay design, reagents, disposables and instrumentation development
• Proven ability to innovate with a history of successful new or improved product releases
• Technical expertise in electrochemical and/or optical sensor design, manufacture and performance
• Ability to advise discipline experts and leaders within diagnostics on how to manage technical risk
• Interacts well with diverse groups, internally and externally
• Demonstrated communication skills: written, peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations
• Ability to influence others by persuasion and analytical reasoning
