Department of Science, Technology and Environment, Government of Punjab (GoP) with the financial support of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India (GoI) setup Punjab Biotechnology Incubator (PBTI) in 2005. PBTI is a component of Agri Food Biotechnology Cluster, Knowledge City, Sector 81, SAS Nagar (Mohali). PBTI, a registered Society under Societies Registration Act is professionally governed by Governing Council under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary Punjab.

IIT Ropar community has undertaken an important exercise of developing the Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan for the coming years. The exercise was carried out in active consultation with Indian Institute of Management Calcutta who have got technical expertise in this area. A participative bottom up approach was followed in formulating the Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan. Guru Nanak Dev University was established at Amritsar on November 24, 1969 to mark the 500th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It is both a residential and an affiliating university.
