Realising the importance of skill development in addressing the challenges of unemployment and to ensure gainful employment for the poor and vulnerable people, Skill Development Policy was notified by the State on 30.01.2009 with constitution of Skill Development Mission under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary.

Government of Haryana has set up Haryana Skill Development Mission in society mode for coordinating Skill Development in the State. Mission is implementing various Skill Development Schemes in Haryana. Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The academic programme of IIT Guwahati commenced in 1995.
