National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) was founded by Sir Robert McCarrison in the year 1918 as ‘Beri-Beri’ Enquiry Unit in a single room laboratory at the Pasteur Institute, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. Within a short span of seven years, this unit blossomed into a "Deficiency Disease Enquiry" and later in 1928, emerged as full-fledged "Nutrition Research Laboratories" (NRL) with Dr. McCarrison as its first Director. It was shifted to Hyderabad in 1958.

Saurashtra University, established on 23rd May, 1967, is situated in Rajkot city of the Saurashtra region of Gujarat State. The campus of the University is spread over 360 acres of land. The jurisdiction of the University includes Amreli, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Porbandar, Rajkot, Surendranagar, Morbi,Gir Somnath and Dwarka districts.

Defence Institute of Bio-Energy Research (DIBER) (formely Defence Agricultural research Laboratory, DARL) is engaged in R&D on Biofuel crops and Bio-diesel for Defence use.Bio-resource conservation, improvement and its judicious utilization and Bioenergy-products from Himalayan Herbs. The laboratory is located at Haldwani, District- Nainital (Uttarakhand).

Following Fellowships are available initially for a period of two years (extendable as per rules), at a monthly stipend of Rs. 25,000/- per month for Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and Rs. 40,000/- per month for Research Associate (RA) (House Rent Allowance is also admissible as per rules).
