Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer, ACTREC, is a unique Institute under the wing of Tata Memorial Centre and a grant-in-aid Institution of the Department of Atomic Energy. The National Institute of Biologicals (NIB) had been set up in 1992. NIB is an apex autonomous institute under the administrative control of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India. The Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology (CCMB) is a premier research organization in frontier areas of modern biology. The objectives of the Centre are to conduct high quality basic research and training in frontier areas of modern biology, and promote centralized national facilities for new and modern techniques in the inter-disciplinary areas of biology.

This Institute came into existence on 1st April,1976 when the India Centre of JALMA was officially handed over to the Govt. of India and subsequently to the Indian Council of Medical Research. This was named as Central JALMA Institute for Leprosy in 1976 and has been renamed as "National Jalma Institute of Leprosy and other Mycobacterial Diseases" in 2005 to reflect its broader research areas.
