Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur (Bengali: Hindi: (or BESU), established in 1856 at Shibpur, Howrah, is the second oldest engineering institution, a premier engineering and state funded institution in India. It is one of the Top Engineering Institutions in India "Ranked 10th Nationally" by "India Today" in the year 2005.

The University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Panjab University is a premier institution of Pharmaceutical Education and Research in the country. The institute has covered a long and glorious journey of 76 years starting from Lahore in 1944 and finally settling to the present campus in Chandigarh at the foothills of Himachal. Tezpur University was established by an Act of Parliament in  1994.

Bharathidasan University established in February 1982, and was named after the great revolutionary Tamil Poet, Bharathidasan (1891-1968). The motto of the University "We will create a brave new world". The University endeavours to be true to such a vision by creating in the region a brave new world of academic innovation for social change"(NAAC, - 2005, p.69). The year 2006-07 is the Silver Jubilee year for this great and vibrant University.
