India and Brazil Sign MoU to Boost Pharmaceutical Regulatory Cooperation

India and Brazil formalised a partnership to deepen cooperation in the regulation of pharmaceutical and medical products by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA).

The exchange of the MoU took place at Hyderabad House in the presence of Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, and H.E. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil, underscoring the growing collaboration between the two nations in the health sector.

Under the agreement, both regulatory authorities will work together to promote the convergence of regulatory practices and strengthen information sharing related to pharmaceutical ingredients, drugs, biological products and medical devices. The framework is expected to enhance mutual understanding of each country’s regulatory systems and support coordinated oversight of medical products, improving safety, quality and access for populations in both countries.

The MoU builds on longstanding ties between India and Brazil in health and pharmaceutical cooperation and complements broader institutional mechanisms for bilateral engagement. Officials from both sides emphasised that this regulatory partnership will bolster supply chain resilience, encourage regulatory best practices and expand access to affordable healthcare solutions, particularly for emerging and developing economies.

The collaboration further highlights India’s role as a key global player in pharmaceuticals and medical technologies, while reinforcing the two nations’ shared commitment to strengthening public health infrastructure and advancing regulatory capacity building through sustained international partnership.
