Alkem Expands Semaglutide Portfolio with India’s First Single-Shot Pre-Filled Syringe, Starting at ₹350

In a move aimed at improving access to diabetes and obesity treatment, Alkem Laboratories has launched India's first semaglutide single-shot pre-filled syringes, with prices starting at just ₹350.

The launch marks another milestone in the rapidly evolving obesity and diabetes care market, as Alkem continues to expand its semaglutide portfolio following the introduction of pre-filled disposable and reusable injection pens earlier this year.

The newly introduced pre-filled syringes are available in multiple dose strengths and are designed to offer a ready-to-use treatment option for patients. By introducing a lower-cost delivery format, the company hopes to make semaglutide therapy more accessible to a larger patient population across India.

Alkem has received approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) to manufacture and market the product for the management of Type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity, alongside lifestyle modifications such as diet and exercise.

The company believes that providing multiple administration options can help address practical barriers that often prevent patients from initiating or continuing long-term treatment. The single-shot syringe format is expected to appeal to patients seeking a simple and convenient alternative to injection pens.

According to Alkem, regulatory approval has also been granted for semaglutide vials, which are expected to be introduced in the Indian market in the coming months.

Commenting on the launch, Dr. Vikas Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of Alkem Laboratories, said that semaglutide has emerged as an important therapeutic option in the management of metabolic disorders. He noted that the addition of pre-filled syringes broadens the choices available to healthcare professionals and patients while supporting wider adoption of therapy.

India continues to witness a growing burden of obesity and Type 2 diabetes, creating increasing demand for effective and affordable treatment options. With the introduction of the single-shot pre-filled syringe, Alkem aims to strengthen patient access to semaglutide and support better long-term disease management.

The latest launch reinforces the company's focus on bringing innovative and affordable therapies to Indian patients while expanding its presence in the metabolic care segment.
