World Pharmacist’s Day Celebration at Geetanjali Institute of Pharmacy

Geetanjali Institute of Pharmacy (GIP), Geetanjali University, Udaipur has celebrated the World Pharmacists Day on 25th September, 2018. This year’s theme is “Pharmacists: Your medicines experts”. GIP organized various events like literary competition (Pharma Quiz, Essay writing and Debate); cultural (Song/Dance competition, Drama); blood donation camp and other including general awareness rally to celebrate the world Pharmacist day.

The programme started with invocation and welcome speech by Dr. Ashok Dashora, Dean, Geetanjali Institute of Pharmacy. He highlighted the importance of continuing education for updating the skills, competence & knowledge. He briefed the gathering about the role of Pharmacists in the Health Care System. He stated that the mission of the pharmacy profession is to render services to the humanity. The public places great trust in the knowledge, skill and professional judgment of the pharmacist and therefore the pharmacist needs to ensure high standards of professional conduct, up to-date knowledge and professional competence. Since the Pharmaceutical sector in India is witnessing tremendous growth, issues of quality and effectiveness need to be urgently addressed.

He mentioned that whenever and wherever “Medicine” is discussed, whether in distribution and retailing of medicines in community or hospital pharmacy, manufacturing, quality, R&D, regulatory, academia etc. the pharmacists should be there. He emphasized the role of pharmacists in quality and rational use of medicines by way of patient counseling. He encouraged and motivated the students to identify the new opportunities and challenges for pharmacy practice in a changing health sector context.
Dr. Dashora also emphasized that the pharmacist shall address the needs of the society and individual patient. Pharmacists can make a vital contribution to the patient care by counseling, providing drug information to doctors, nurses, monitoring drug therapy etc.
The Pharmacist cares to patient’s oriented activities were organized on view of World Pharmacist Day from 24th September, 2018.

The students participated in Quiz competition and in Quiz competition 1st & 2nd position received by Miss. Charul Agarwal & team and Mr. Deepak Khandelwal & team of Pharm D II year & B. Pharm IV Year respectively and 3rd Position received by Mr. Geet Godawat & Team of B. Pharm III SEM. Furthermore, In Debate competition 1st position received by Ms. Charul Agarwal of Pharm D-II year in Favor of the topic and in against of the topic by Ms. Vimala Choudhary of B. Pharm 3rd year. In addition, solo & group song competition the 1st position received by Ms. Tanuja Chouhan in solo of D. Pharmacy 2nd year and in group Kimi & team of Pharm D-II year, whereas the 2nd position received by Ms. Pooja Padmawat in solo of B. Pharm 3rd year and in group Mamta & team of D. Pharm 2nd year.

On 25th Sep, Geetanjali Institute of Pharmacy has also organized a rally and blood donation camp at blood bank of Geetanjali Medical College and Campus, Udaipur. More than 50 students and staff donated the blood during this camp. All competitions were based on Pharmacist care towards patients.
