National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), SAS Nagar (Mohali), Punjab under the aegis of Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (Department of Pharmaceuticals), Govt. of India, is an autonomous institute of National Importance created by an Act of Parliament devoted to the promotion of pharmaceutical education and research. The Institute is located at SAS Nagar (Ajitgarh), adjoining the beautiful city of Chandigarh. It is ideally placed for intellectual interaction with the several medical, scientific and technological centers. The Institute has a pleasing campus with fully equipped laboratories and instructional facilities and necessary housing provision.

The mandate of the Institute is to create human resource of a high calibre to serve the academic institutes and the Indian pharmaceutical industry and the profession, undertake cutting edge research & development in the area of drugs & pharmaceutical and help the Indian pharma industry achieve its goal to become a global player.

The Himalaya Drug Company was founded in 1930 by Mr. M. The grape growers of India were among the first to form a cohesive non-political, non-racial and non-religious group for sharing the knowledge and for garnering technical and administrative support for the grape industry in all facets of grape production, processing and marketing. Owing to several problems faced by grape growers with respect to grape production and to get their problems solved, the group approached the Indian Council of Agricultural Research to establish a dedicated research unit for working on grapes. Thus after due deliberation on the research needs of grape growers and the grape industry and also to address the future challenges and opportunities, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research approved the establishment of National Research Centre for Grapes vide sanction letter No.1 (2)/92-PI&M (Part-III) dated 16 September, 1993.
