Health and Family Welfare programme is being implemented in the state to sustain the achievement of the previous years and to reach new goals. NRHM is working in a task mode to achieve goals set-in for the state and effectively deal with the challenges. NRHM has set the strategic direction that encompasses year wise objectives, technical strategies; interventions include program and services for improving maternal health, child health, family planning, adolescents' health etc. RCH –II has been bifurcated into core programmatic strategies and cross cutting program strategies for taking effective actions.

West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (WBSETCL) is the State Transmission Utility (STU) of West Bengal and presently owns and operates total 128 nos. of Sub-Stations ranging from 66 kV to 400 kV with total installed capacity of 29883 MVA. It is the constant endeavour of WBSETCL to ensure grid stability across the State of West Bengal as well as in the Eastern Region of the Nation and have always maintained the system availability of more than 99.85%. In order to provide quality power and stable voltage to each and every corner of West Bengal, WBSETCL has laid transmission line network of 13599 ckm and constantly expanding the same.

On 15th August 1854, East Indian Railway (EIR)’s first train ran from Howrah to Hooghly, a distance of 24 miles. Regular services were introduced from that day, with stops at Bally, Serampore and Chandannagore.  In 1862, EIR extended upto the west bank of Yamuna on its way to Delhi. In 1864, in a bid to connect Calcutta and Delhi, trains started running between the two cities without any bridge on Yamuna by ferrying the coaches on boats across the river at Allahabad. In 1865 the Yamuna Bridge at Allahabad opened. In 1867 EIR branch line extended from Allahabad to Jubbalpore.

Andhra University is not just one of the oldest educational institutions in the country, but is also the first to be conceived as a residential and teaching-cum-affiliating University, mainly devoted to post-graduate teaching and research.  The people of the State have an emotional attachment to the institution, since it came into being after a prolonged and collective struggle of the Telugu elite for a University in the educationally backward northern Circars and Ceded districts of the erstwhile Madras Presidency.  Andhra University was constituted in the year 1926 by the Madras Act of 1926. The 86-year-old institution is fortunate to have Sir C.R. Reddy as its founder Vice-Chancellor, as the steps taken by this visionary proved to be fruitful in the long run.
