National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) was founded by Sir Robert McCarrison in the year 1918 as ‘Beri-Beri’ Enquiry Unit in a single room laboratory at the Pasteur Institute, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. Within a short span of seven years, this unit blossomed into a "Deficiency Disease Enquiry" and later in 1928, emerged as full-fledged "Nutrition Research Laboratories" (NRL) with Dr. McCarrison as its first Director. The mass spectrometry facility is a core facility for scientists of the Bangalore Life Sciences Cluster (BLiSc) that includes inStem and the National Centre for Biological Science (NCBS) and the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms which share a campus and research facilities. The facility comprises laboratories situated within the BLiSc campus. It provides services and training to a range of users. This position involves management and coordination of operations of the mass spectrometry facility. The head of the facility is expected to lead a team of staff whose work includes the maintenance of a facility with several state-of-the-art mass spectrometers and associated equipment. The role requires providing technical input into user projects, managing staff and work flow as well as the development and implementation of research grade experimental techniques using mass spectrometry.
