New Europe College (NEC) is an independent Romanian institute for advanced study in the humanities and social sciences founded in 1994 by Professor Andrei Pleșu (philosopher, art historian, writer, Romanian Minister of Culture, 1990–1991, Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, 1997-1999) within the framework of the New Europe Foundation, established in 1994 as a private foundation subject to Romanian law. nec-7 nec-1 nec-2 nec-3 nec-4 nec-5 nec-6  Its impetus was the New Europe Prize for Higher Education and Research, awarded in 1993 to Professor Pleșu by a group of six institutes for advanced study (the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, Stanford, the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, the National Humanities Center, Research Triangle Park, the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in Humanities and Social Sciences, Wassenaar, the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study in the Social Sciences, Uppsala, and the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin).

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS NEW EUROPE COLLEGE FELLOWSHIPS Academic year 2020-2021

 

Eligibility
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. title. Preference is given to early career candidates and to those who have not yet benefited from a NEC Fellowship. Working languages: English, French, and German. A good command of English is desirable.

Duration of the Fellowship: for Romanian citizens a full academic year (10 months, starting with October 2020); for non-Romanian citizens a full academic year (10 months, starting with October 2020); for non-Romanian citizens a) a full academic year (10 months, starting with October 2020) or b) a one term (5 months, starting with October 2020 or with March 2021). 

Location : New Europe College – Institute for Advanced Study, Bucharest, Romania.

The Fellowship consists of : a monthly stipend of 750 Euro (tax free), accommodation in Bucharest, comprising living quarters and working space; travel from the home/residence country to Bucharest and back, as well as for season holidays. t The Fellows who stay for the whole academic year are offered a one-month research trip abroad to an institution of their choice (1,500 Euro for transportation, accommodation, and per diem).The Fellows will also have free access to the NEC library and electronic resources/databases.

 

The Fellows are expected to work on their own projects, and take part in the scientific events organized by the New Europe College. At the end of their Fellowship, each Fellow is expected to hand in a research paper, reflecting the results of his/her work over the duration of the Fellowship. The papers will be included in a NEC publication.
