Pharmaceutical Sciences Fellowship 2026 by Sun Pharma Science Foundation

Invite Heads of Research Institutions, Universities, Medical and Pharmaceutical Colleges, to send in their nominations for the Sun Pharma Science Foundation Research Fellowships 2026. The Fellowships are for excellence in original research work in Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences by Indian scientists. Non-Resident Indian Scientists abroad (who are holding a valid Indian Passport) are also eligible for these Fellowships.

The 2026 Fellowships

There are three Fellowships. Each Fellowship will carry a Trophy, Citation and a Cash Prize of Rupees Five Lakh (Rs.500,000/-). MEDICAL SCIENCES : Two Fellowships. - One each for Basic Research and Clinical Research.
PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES : One Fellowship.

Scope of the Fellowships
MEDICAL SCIENCES
a. Basic Research Basic Research would cover :
• Fundamental advances in any discipline of physical or bio-medical sciences that enhance the understanding and scope of Medical Sciences.
b. Clinical Research Clinical Research would cover :
• Contributions for better understanding of the functioning of human body system or aetiopathogenesis, pathophysiology or molecular basis of disease processes, thereby enhancing the understanding of medical sciences and lead to improvement in health care.
• Epidemiological studies on (a) prevalence of diseases, (b) impact of interventions on disease patterns in the community.
• Application of advances in Laboratory Methodology to enhance patient care.
• Advances in diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
• Advances in knowledge by clinical evaluation of new and existing drugs, vaccines and diagnostic tests.
• Epidemiological studies on the secondary prevention of diseases by therapeutic interventions.
The number of Fellowships in each category could vary.

PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES
Pharmaceutical Sciences would cover:-
(i) New Drug Discovery and Development
· Design and development of new drugs
· Identification of new drug targets
· drug-receptor interaction and characterization of receptors
· Novel drug delivery systems
· Study of mode of action of drugs
(ii) Process Development and Applied Research
· Outstanding achievements in molecular biology, biotechnology and fermentation.
This would also include Applied Research in Pharmaceutical Science covering innovations in the applied field with distinctive features in :
- Development of new process technology for commercial production of active pharmaceutical ingredients, intermediates or excipients.
- Development of Pharmaceutical dosage forms with improved stability and/or bioavailability.
- Development of standardized dosage forms through exploitation of rich natural resources including from herbal sources and traditional systems drugs.
- Applied Research in the area of biotechnology/fermentation technology.
Outstanding contributions in one or more areas of the above categories would be eligible for an Fellowship.

The Nomination Procedure
• Indian national scientists and Non-Resident Indian scientists (who are holding a valid Indian Passport), working in India or abroad are eligible for these awards.
• Please submit your nominations online, from May 15, 2026 to July 15, 2026 and send a print copy of the nomination together with all attachments to the office of the
• Foundation to reach latest by July 31, 2026.

The nominations should be submitted through online

- Photograph of the Applicant
- Mention the category of the Fellowship for which the nomination is being submitted
- Name of the Applicant
- Date of birth
- Citizenship (only Indian Scientists, Working in India and abroad are eligible for this Fellowship. Non-resident Indian Scientists are also eligible for the Fellowship).
- Complete Office & Residence Address with Tel. Cell No. & e-mail address of the applicant.
- Name of the Nominator
- Complete Office Address with Tel. Cell No. & e-mail address of the nominator.
- Signed Justification for sponsoring the nomination (not to exceed 400 words) by the nominator.

After uploading the Justification letter from the sponsor of the nomination, the applicant will be provided a login id and password to upload the following information.
a. Complete bio-data of the applicant (not to exceed 3000 words)
b. In order of importance, list of ten best papers of the candidate, highlighting the important discoveries/contributions described in them briefly (not to exceed 3000 words)
c. Statement of research achievements, if any, on which any Fellowship has already been received by the applicant. Please also upload brief citation(s) on the research work(s) for which the applicant has already received the Fellowship(s) (not to exceed 2000 words)
d. Details of the research work duly signed by the applicant, for which the Sun Pharma Science Foundation Research Fellowship is claimed, including references and illustrations (not to exceed 6000 words).
e. Copy of one or two specific publications/research papers of the applicant, relevant to the research work on which the Fellowship is claimed.
f. Signed statement from the applicant to the effect that the research work under reference has not been given any Fellowship in the past. The applicant should also indicate the extent of the contribution of others associated with the research and he/she should clearly identify his/her achievements (not to exceed 500 words)
g. Citation (summary) on the outstanding research work on which Fellowship is claimed in about 250 words signed by the nominator.

The nomination should be sponsored by the HEAD OF THE INSTITUTE and or a person who is competent to review the research work of the nominee.
• In regard to joint sponsorship for the Fellowship, the nominator is requested to check that the research work done by all the scientists is in the same scientific field and the contribution made by each of the scientists is clearly mentioned.
• Sun Pharma Science Foundation Research Fellowships are not for a specific research topic of a scientist, but for the overall scientific contribution in his/her specialty, and therefore, the Fellowship will be considered as one time award for a scientist's achievement. A scientist should not be considered for this Fellowship for a second time.
• The nominations will be reviewed by a Panel of Judges, consisting of eminent scientists in the fields of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
• The Fellowship Presenting Ceremony for the 2026 Fellowships is expected to be held during the last quarter of 2026 or first quarter of 2027 in New Delhi. The Fellows will be paid to and fro traveling expenses (economy class) to New Delhi, in addition to other expenses connected with their stay in New Delhi for a day or two.
