CSIR looking for R&D professionals for the posts of Scientist



Established in 1942, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is an autonomous Society whose President is the Prime Minister of India. CSIR is globally benchmarked today and has been ranked 9lh in the world amongst the 1207 Government institutions according to the SCImago Institutions ranking World Report 2017 with an overall global ranking of 75 in the world, covering 5250 institutions. In the Asiatic region, CSIR ranks at 14 overall out of 1431 entities, and at No 3 among 284 Government-funded research bodies, with only Chinese Academy of Sciences and Japan Science and Technology Agency ahead of the Council. Post : Distinguished Scientist

CSIR is looking for visionary R&D leaders to shape a new science and technology landscape in India so as to address global scientific and technological challenges as Distinguished Scientist through its prestigious national Laboratories/lnstitutes. Distinguished Scientists shall also spearhead translational research in their chosen frontier field in any of the constituent laboratories of CSIR. The position is open both for Indian Citizens and Scientist/Technologist of Indian Origin.

The applicant must have:-
(i) Proven track record in areas of cutting edge Science & Technology with direct benefit and interest in traditional and high quality fundamental and application oriented S&T experience directly relevant for CSIR and its mandate.
(ii) Leadership qualities required for building/nurturing new groups of Scientists and technologists in emerging areas of interest to the country, and its problems in keeping with national innovation objective and their effective translation via the CSIR mandate.

Scale of Pay: Level 16 (Rs. 2,05,400- 2,24,400) of Pay Matrix as per the 7th CPC OR such consolidated pay as recommended by the committee.

Tenure of Appointment:
(i) Appointment of Distinguished Scientist shall be on contract on full time basis for a period upto five years or on a part time basis for the same period where the Distinguished Scientist shall work on a time sharing basis between his/her parent organization and CSIR, the pattern of time sharing to be recommended by the Search-cum-Selection committee in consultation with the candidate,
(ii) Persons appointed as Distinguished Scientists and who are below the age of superannuation will continue until the age of superannuation and thereafter will continue up to five years contract period or 65 years, whichever is earlier with yearly review,
(iii) Superannuated Scientists/Technologists can be appointed as Distinguished Scientists on contractual basis up to 5 years or till the age of 70 years with yearly review, whichever is earlier,
(iv) Only in exceptional cases, the appointment or renewal of contract can go beyond 70 years, if the Distinguished Scientist has been recognized by high caliber recognition and awards/or exceptional societal contribution for technological solution to national grand challenges/problems.
(v) Extension of tenure may be considered by an Evaluation Committee.
