BAYER FELLOWSHIPS PROGRAM

BAYER FELLOWSHIPS PROGRAM - MEDHA

OBJECTIVES : Bayer’s Fellowship program - MEDHA is to provide fellowships in the form of financial assistance to students in the Life-sciences / Biotechnology/ Pharma discipline to continue higher studies such as Master’s and PhD Programs. Medha helps students whose educational aspirations are hampered by a lack of financial support. The fellowships are open only to students of the Economically Weaker Section* of the society enrolled in the Life-sciences / Biotechnology/ Pharma.
*Economically Weaker Section: with aggregated annual family income of Rs. 8 Lakhs or less

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE AWARD OF FELLOWSHIP
The detailed criteria for the award of fellowship are as follows:
(a) For Master’s fellowships, a candidate must have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Life- science/Biotechnology/Pharma with at least 55% marks or 6 on a ten-point scale and above. For PhD fellowships, a candidate must have completed a Master’s degree in Life- Science/Biotechnology/ Pharma with at least 60% marks or 6.5 on a ten-point scale and above
(b) Only open for first-year students enrolled in a Master’s/ PhD program in Life - Science/Biotechnology/Pharma at an Institute/university/Research Lab approved by AICTE/PCI/UGC/CSIR.
(c) Age Limit: Post Graduate fellowship: 25 years or lower as on 31st December, 2022 PhD fellowship: 30 years or lower as on 31st December 2022.
(d) All candidates should be enrolled full-time and not be receiving any other fellowships.

DURATION OF THE FELLOWSHIP : The duration of the Medha Fellowship shall be for a period of 2 Years for a Master’s program and 3 Years for a PhD program. No further extension will be granted. 5. AMOUNT OF FELLOWSHIP :
For Master’s Program - The candidate will be provided a fellowship of Rs. 20,000 per month.
For PhD Program - The candidate will be provided a fellowship of Rs. 40,000 per month.
No contingency grant is admissible.


NUMBER OF FELLOWSHIPS : A total of 125 candidates will be supported under Medha fellowship program including 100 fellowships for Master’s and 25 for PhD candidates.
RESERVATION POLICY : The Medha fellowship is exclusively for Economically Weaker Section of the society* of which 60% is reserved for Female candidates and 10% for Person with Disability (PwD) for each Master’s/PhD program. *Economically Weaker Section: with aggregated annual family income of Rs. 8 Lakhs or less

CONTINUATION OF FELLOWSHIP
Master’s candidates who are awarded the fellowship should constantly score at least 60% or 6.5 on a ten-point scale in each semester PhD scholars should constantly score at least 65% or 7.0 on a ten-point scale. Or Evaluated Project Progress Report by Supervisor and Doctoral Research Committee (whichever is applicable).

AWARD TERMINATION/DISCONTINUATION :
Fellowships may be terminated at any time during the tenure, and the decision of Bayer will be final.
Some of the key reasons for the termination of fellowships are described below.
• Misconduct or ineligibility
• Failure in any examination related to Master/PhD or unsatisfactory progress of research work.
• Applicants who furnish false information or engage in fraudulent activity may result in criminal prosecution.
• Supervisor’s recommendation and/or resignation acceptance.
• Unauthorized change of host institution.
• If the fellowship is terminated on unethical grounds, the fellowship recipient must refund the complete fellowship amount disbursed till date.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
a) The fellowship will be granted as per the described eligibility criteria
• Research scholars enrolled in the Universities in the identified thrust areas of the program
• Scholars pursuing Master’s course in Life-sciences / Biotechnology/ Pharma
b) The awardees shall submit a six months report on the progress, through the Research Supervisor, Head of the Department, and Head of the Institute to the implementing agency on the online portal for the continuation of the fellowship.
c) The awardees shall declare and upload achievements (patents, publications, conferences, awards, etc) on the online portal as an additional parameter for awardee progress assessment.
d) The awardees shall not be allowed the change to the institute without prior intimation and approval from Bayer.
e) The fellowship amount will be directly credited to the candidate’s bank account after evaluation & approval of the uploaded progress report.
f) The awardees shall devote full-time to academic studies/research during the tenure of fellowship and will not be permitted to take up any part-time/ full-time assignments, salary/fellowship, or any other financial assistance offered during the tenure of fellowship through any other source.
g) If the candidate's progress is not satisfactory as reported by the Supervisor/ Head of the Department /Head of the Research Institute/ University, the awardee fellowship shall be terminated immediately. This will not be revoked under any circumstances.

APPLICATION PROCESS
The candidate should apply for the Bayer Fellowship Program - Medha on or before 13th January 2023, via the online portal. Multiple applications will lead to disqualification.
