BRIC-NABI requires research personnel

BRIC-National Agri-Food and Biomanufacturing Institute (BRIC-NABI) is an autonomous Institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. BRIC-NABI aims at catalysing the transformation of the Agri- food sector in India by being a nodal organization for knowledge generation and translational science leading to value-added products based on Agri-Food biotech innovations for improved household nutritional security. Since its inception in 2010, BRIC-NABI is involved in research activities for Bio-fortification, the development of designer crops for improved nutrition, providing sustainable and novel solutions for quality food and nutrition, and the development of evidence-based functional foods to counter malnutrition. 

The food and nutritional Biotechnology division at BRIC-NABI requires the following research personnel purely on a temporary basis.

Junior Research Fellow (One position)
Project Title : “Enhanced drought and heat stress resilience in direct-seeded rice through root and stomatal trait-based genomic approaches” (GAP-104)
Principle Investigator : Dr. Rajeev N Bahuguna Scientist-D, BRIC-NABI
Duration : The appointment will be initially for two years as JRF. Further up-gradation from JRF to SRF will be on the basis of the submission of a progress report and further assessment.
Essential Qualification : Postgraduate degree in Basic Science or Graduate/ Postgraduate in the professional course selected through a process described through any one of the following:
a) Scholars are selected through National Eligibility Tests-CSIR UGC NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE.
b) The selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, etc.
Desirable Experience :
General plant molecular biology related techniques such as Plant tissue culture, Enzyme Kinetics, Metabolomics, Gas exchange measurements.
Responsibilities :
1. Gene expression analysis and metabolomics
2. Crop phenotyping and gas-exchange measurements (Photosynthesis, respiration)
3. Enzyme analysis
Emoluments: - Rs. 37,000/- per month Plus HRA. As per DST OM No. DST/PCPM/Z-60/2022, dated 26th June, 2023.

Project Associate (One Position)
Project Title : “Investigating the genetic basis of variation in yield and grain nutrient profile in rice under elevated day and night temperature” (GAP-78)
Principle Investigator : Dr. Rajeev N Bahuguna, Scientist-D, BRIC-NABI
Duration : The appointment will initially be for one year and may continue until the completion of the project, subject to the availability of funds from the sponsoring agency. Further extension will be based on performance evaluation and project requirements.
Essential Qualification :
• Master's degree from a recognized University/Institute in Life Sciences/Agricultural Science/Biotechnology or any allied subjects
OR
• Master's degree from a recognized University/Institute in Life Sciences/Agricultural Science/Biotechnology or any allied subjects and selected through National Eligibility Tests- CSIR-UGC-NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE Selection through National Level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies/institutions such as DST, DBT, ICMR, etc.
Desirable Experience :
1. Basic understanding of genetics/genomics; exposure to GWAS analysis will be an advantage.
2. Basic experience in field phenotyping experiments.
3. Familiarity with molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA isolation and PCR.
Responsibilities :
1. Assist in field phenotyping and data collection.
2. Support DNA isolation and basic lab work.
3. Help in data entry, analysis, and documentation.
4. Coordinate with team members and assist in routine project activities
Emoluments: - Rs. 31000/- per month plus HRA or Rs. 25000/- per month plus HRA (As per DST OM No.SR/S9/Z08/2018 dated 30.01.2019)

Research Associate I (One position)
Project Title : “Metabolic engineering of natural defense chemicals in banana” (GAP-103) Principle Investigator: Dr. Panneerselvam Krishna Murthy, Scientist-D, BRIC-NABI
Funding Agency : Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF)
Duration : One Year, extendable on annual basis for subsequent years subject to satisfactory progress. 
Essential Qualification : PhD in any branch of Life Sciences or Biotechnology with at least two peer- reviewed international publication in Science Citation indexed (SCl) journal.
Desirable Experience :
We seek an enthusiastic and highly motivated candidate with demonstrated research experience in most (if not all) of the following areas:
1. Tissue culture and genetic transformation of banana
2. Establishing and maintaining embryogenic cell suspensions of banana
3. Molecular biology techniques, including PCR, recombinant DNA cloning, and recombinant protein production in E. coli
4. Genome editing and RNA-Seq analysis
Responsibilities : The recruited RA-I will work across all the areas outlined under the desirable qualifications, in regard to decipher the biosynthetic pathway of phenylphenalenone-type phytoalexins in
banana. The candidate will also assist in project coordination, contribute to the preparation of reports for funding agencies, and support the writing of manuscripts for publication.

Research Associate I (One position)
Project Title : “Exploring saponin biosynthesis pathway genes in soybean and other legumes” (NABI-Core)
Principle Investigator : Dr. Panneerselvam Krishna Murthy, Scientist-D, BRIC-NABI
Funding Agency : NABI-Core
Duration : The RA fellowship is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a period of 1 year only, and depending upon the progress of the research, and the performance, the committee may recommend for further extension of tenure.
Essential Qualification : PhD in any branch of Life Sciences or Biotechnology with at least two peer- reviewed international publication in Science Citation indexed (SCl) journal.
Desirable Experience :
We seek an enthusiastic and highly motivated candidate with demonstrated research experience in most (if not all) of the following areas :
1. Plant secondary metabolites profiling using GC-MS and LC-MS
2. Heterologous production of plant secondary metabolites in Nicotiana
3. Molecular biology techniques, including PCR, recombinant DNA cloning, and recombinant protein production in E. coli
4. Genome editing and RNA-Seq analysis

Research Associate I (One Position)
Project Title : “Identification and characterization of stress and nutrition-associated genes in banana” (NABI-Core)
Principle Investigator : Dr. Sanjana Negi, Scientist-C, BRIC-NABI
Duration : One Year, extendable on annual basis for subsequent years subject to satisfactory progress.
Essential Qualification : Ph.D./MD/MS/MDS or equivalent degree or having 3 years of research, teaching and design and development experience after VSc/M.Pharm/ME/M.Tech with at least one research paper in a Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal.
Desirable Experience : Basic knowledge of bioinformatics tools, transcriptomic analysis, general plant molecular biology-related techniques such as cloning and qPCR, plant tissue culture, and transformation of bacteria and plants Emoluments: - Rs. 58,000/- per month Plus HRA.

Application Procedure & Other Conditions
1. All interested candidates may appear for Walk-In-Interview at National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute located at Knowledge city, Sector-81, Mohali, Punjab- 140306, on 27.04.2026 at 09:00 A.M.
2. Interested candidates must apply using the prescribed application form attached to the advertisement on the official website. Please note that CVs or expressions of interest sent via email or phone will not be accepted or treated as valid applications.
3. The applications should be submitted strictly as per the prescribed format that can be downloaded from the NABI website.
4. Candidates applying for more than one post can give their preference by writing different designations in the same application form.
5. Candidates should ensure that information mentioned in the application form is accurate. Once the application form is submitted no further request regarding any changes/ information in the application form will be considered.
6. The duly filled application form must be submitted at the time of registration at NABI from 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM on 27.04.2026.
7. The candidates must ascertain their eligibility before applying, as ineligible candidates will not be interviewed.
8. All the candidates are requested to appear for a Walk-In interview with an application form, experience certificates, publications, and original degree certificates and transcripts.
9. Original mark sheets, certificates, award/fellowship, etc must be accomplished for verification at the time of the interview and attach one set of attested copies of the documents with the application form.
10. No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the interview.
11. Canvassing in any form or bringing influence, political or otherwise, will lead to disqualification of the candidate(s).
12. Candidates should strictly adhere to guidelines issued by World Health Organization and Centre Govt/State Govt on Covid-19.
13. In the event of special circumstances, candidates may request the project investigator (via email) to conduct their interviews online. Such requests must be submitted well in advance, preferably at least one week prior to the scheduled interview date. However, the final decision will be taken by the selection committee to ascertain the special circumstances and allow the candidate (s) for an online interview. The Institute reserves the right to conduct the interview in online/offline mode.
14. Interview results will be published on the NABI website.
15. The last date to submit the online application is 23.04.2026. No applications will be entertained thereafter.

Note : Permission for online interview may be sought from the PI at least one week prior to the interview date and a valid reason must be given for the same.
