The Gujarat Foren­sic Sci­ences Uni­ver­sity was estab­lished by the Gov­ern­ment of Gujarat vide an Act No. 17 of 2008 passed by the Gujarat Leg­isla­tive Assem­bly dated 30th Sep­tem­ber,2008 with an objec­tive of ful­fill­ing the acute short­age against increas­ing demand of foren­sic experts in the coun­try & the world. The main objec­tive of the Uni­ver­sity to make the Crim­i­nal Jus­tice Deliv­ery Sys­tem techno Savvy and it would help over­come the actual short­age of skilled man­power engaged in this field. It became func­tional from Feb, 2009 and was rec­og­nized by the Uni­ver­sity Grants Com­mis­sion as a State Uni­ver­sity under Sec­tion 22 of theUGC Act 1956 to award degrees in May, 2011.

ABSTRACT
Bromelain is a plant protease present in different parts of the pineapple [AnanasComosus (Linn.) Merr.]plant. It is an enzyme of high commercial interest which can be attributed to the wide therapeutic and industrial applications it possesses. As such efficient purification and recovery of the enzyme is utmost necessary on a large scale basis. The review highlights the numerous applications of the protease enzyme and further discusses the various purification techniques beginning from simpler ultrafiltration to the more complex and specific column chromatography that are being commonly employed nowadays. Effort has been made to compare the purification strategies extensively and suggest the best among the techniques which is cost-effective, has high output and can be used on a large scale production basis
.

India has 15 Agroclimatic zones and 17000-18000 species of flowering plants of which 6000-7000 are estimated to have medicinal usage in folk and documented systems of medicine, like Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy.  About 960 species of medicinal plants are estimated to be in trade of which 178 species have annual consumption levels in excess of 100 metric tones.  Medicinal plants are not only a major resource base for the traditional medicine & herbal industry but also provide livelihood and health security to a large segment of Indian population.  The domestic trade of the AYUSH industry is of the order of Rs. 80 to 90 billion (1US$ = Rs.50).  The Indian medicinal plants and their products also account of exports in the range of Rs. 10 billion.
