The PGIMER owes its inception to the vision of late Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, the then Chief Minister of Punjab and the distinguished medical educationists of the then combined state of Punjab, supported by the first Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru who considered the institutions of scientific knowledge as temples of learning and the places of pilgrimage.

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) is the Central Drug Authority for discharging functions assigned to the Central Government under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. CDSCO has six zonal offices, four sub-zonal offices, 13 port offices and seven laboratories under its control.

Situated at Belagavi in Karnataka, the ICMR-National Institute of Traditional Medicine (Formerly known as RMRC Belagavi) conducts research on traditional and herbal medicines and on diseases of local health importance.The Institute is envisaged as a major Resource Centre for development of herbal technologies and products for prevention and treatment of major diseases including metabolic and hepatic disorders, ulcer, enteric diseases etc.

Lala Birkha Ram College of Pharmacy, has a Unique Campus located in the foothills of shivaliks, spread in a sprawling lush green, over 10 acres land, in closest vicinity of Panchkula, Chandigarh and Mohali. This institute has been established by a non profiteering registered society namely Lala Birkha Ram Medical, Research & Education Society, registered under the Society Registration Act, 1860. Vardhman Mahavir Medical College was established at Safdarjung Hospital by the Government of India in November, 2001. Its inauguration was done by the then  Honourable Prime Minister Sh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee on  17th December, 2001 in presence of Sh.L.K.Advani, Sh. C. P. Thakur and Founder Principal Dr. Jagdish Prasad. The College building was dedicated to the Nation by the Vice President Sh. M. Hamid Ansari on 20th Nov. 2007 in the presence of Honourable Health Minister Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss.
