ABSTRACT
Cymbopogon, is a tall perennial grass with 55 species ofgrasses. Lemongrass is the source of Lemongrass oil, natural citral, which is used as a basic raw material for synthesis of β-ionone used for synthesis of a number of useful aromatic compounds and Vitamin-A. In the present study the determined plant parts (5g) of four CymbopogonSps. were ground, extracted with five solvents and filtered after 48hrs. The dry weight of the extracts was obtained by allowing the solvent to evaporate and was used to determine concentration in mg/ml. Microbial susceptibility assays using the agar dilution (Mueller-Hinton Agar) method (%v/v and corresponding mg/mL values) and the Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) were carried out for E.coli, Bacillus sp., Streptococcus sp., Staphylococcus sp.

Abstract
The world is gifted with wonderful and precious resources such as plants, animals and minerals that form the major part of our medical system. We as humans are so dependent on these natural sources that life without them is beyond imagination. Thus it is of prime importance that we look into the conservation and preservation of natural products. The Indian and international government bodies have developed various laws, rules and conventions to ensure sustainability of such natural products. This article reviews the general laws, rules and regulations developed globally for natural and traditional medicine. Various guidelines like WHO, EMEA, TGA guidelines are looked upon. Some difficulties that are faced regarding regulatory issues of herbal medicines are studied. The Acts like Indian patent Act, Plant Variety Protection Act, Farmer’s rights, terms like Biodiversity and Biopiracy are reviewed in this article.

The Scores in Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) have been in use till the year 2010 for admission in Master’s Programme in Pharmacy (M.Pharm) & Engineering and also for awarding fellowships / scholarships to Pharmacy Graduates along with engineering graduates. Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) an all India Examination was then launched by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi separately with effect from academic year 2011 - 12 for admission in Master’s Programme in Pharmacy (M.
