  • The Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers Shri Ananth Kumar has announced the setting up of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Jhalawar, Rajasthan. Speaking at the Resurgent Rajasthan function in Jaipur today, he said that the Government will invest Rs 500 crore in this international level institute which will come up in two years.

  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of the Department of Health Research in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for setting up of a National Resource Facility for Bio-medical Research (NARF) at Genome Valley in Hyderabad by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR).

  • India aims to scale up start-ups in the biotechnology sector to at least 1,500 in the next two to three years to boost technological interventions in the health and agriculture sectors, a senior biotechnology department official said.

  • The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) is set to become the first WHO Collaborating Centre for Safety of Medicines and Vaccines in the South-East Asia Region. This was stated by Shri J P Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare while addressing the 38th Annual Meeting of Representatives of the National Pharmacovigilance Centres participating in the World Health Organization Programme for International Drug Monitoring, organized by the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) and World Health Organization (WHO).

  • National Institutes for Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs) and Pharma Industries signed 17 MoU to bridge gap betwwen academic education and industrial needs. One of the critical factors in building innovation ecosystem and for Drug Discovery is Academia-Industry linkage. Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) for the last one year has actively engaged both the NIPERs and the Pharma Industry to build partnership in areas of education, research and development.

  • Several healthcare institutions of India including the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) were selected as the best hospitals by the British Medical Journal for having the best medicine experts in South Asia, an achievement that is likely to further improve the Indian medical brand worldwide.
