The National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) was launched in April 2005. The NRHM focused especially on 18 states, with poor infrastructure and low public health indicators, namely the eight Empowered Action Group (EAG) states - (Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Odisha and Rajasthan), the eight North Eastern States (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura) and two other states, namely, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir
