The NIOH is the premier institute, under the aegis of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) under the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India. The need for research in Occupational Health in the country was first appreciated by Indian Research Fund Association (IRFA), the forerunner of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). IRFA set up an Industrial Health Advisory Committee (IHAC) under the chairmanship of Col. Bozman in 1945.

The PGIMER owes its inception to the vision of late Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, the then Chief Minister of Punjab and the distinguished medical educationists of the then combined state of Punjab, supported by the first Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru who considered the institutions of scientific knowledge as temples of learning and the places of pilgrimage.

Malabar Cancer Centre, Thalassery (MCC) is an autonomous institution under Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Kerala, established under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. The institution is located at Kodiyeri, Thalassery of Kannur District and was established in 2001 and the clinical services were started in the same year.

The Department of Biological Sciences (DBS), located at the picturesque Colaba campus of TIFR on the southern-most tip of the island city of Mumbai, India, was established in the 1960s as the erstwhile Molecular Biology Unit by Professor Obaid Siddiqi. DBS has since expanded to engage with diverse aspects of modern biology, capitalizing on a gamut of model organisms and state-of-the-art tools and approaches. We are a vibrant community of 11 faculty and more than 100 researchers including scientific officers, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students.
