  • The Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) adopted a positive opinion recommending approval of Merck's investigational antibiotic Zerbaxa (ceftolozane and tazobactam). This is used for the treatment of the complicated intra-abdominal infections, acute pyelonephritis, and complicated urinary tract infections in adults.

  • Breast cancer survivors are especially vulnerable to dyspareunia, or painful sexual intercourse, because their treatment mainly focuses on eradicating the sex hormone estrogen. A new research has suggested that application of liquid lidocaine, a common local anesthetic, may significantly improve sexual function of breast cancer survivors who experience pain during sexual intercourse. The research appeared online in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
