The Pharmacy Council of India has intensified the implementation of the Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) across all PCI-approved pharmacy institutions in India. Through multiple circulars and notifications issued under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Council has directed institutions to ensure strict compliance with biometric attendance requirements for faculty members and students.
According to the latest PCI communication, institutions must complete onboarding on the centralized AEBAS portal, register biometric devices, onboard faculty members, and ensure regular attendance marking through the system. The move follows Gazette Notification S.O. 1362(E) dated March 21, 2025, which made the implementation of AEBAS mandatory for pharmacy institutions.
PCI has warned that institutions failing to comply with the AEBAS mandate may face serious consequences during the approval process for the academic session 2026-27. The Council observed that several colleges either failed to register on the portal, did not connect biometric devices, or had not onboarded faculty members despite repeated reminders and workshops conducted nationwide.
In a significant expansion of the system, PCI has also directed all approved M.Pharm institutions to onboard postgraduate students under AEBAS. The attendance data will be linked with the PMSPPS GPAT scholarship scheme to improve transparency and authenticity in scholarship disbursement.
The Council has additionally issued FAQs, clarifications, and operational guidelines to assist institutions in the implementation process. Institutions are required to use the centralized PCI portal for onboarding, grievance submission, and attendance management activities.
