eSanjeevani Crosses 50 Crore Teleconsultations as India Expands Digital Healthcare Reach

India’s national telemedicine service eSanjeevani has crossed the landmark of 50 crore teleconsultations, highlighting the growing role of digital healthcare in improving access to medical services across the country.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, eSanjeevani reached 50,00,92,730 cumulative teleconsultations on September 15, 2026. The platform is now operational across all 36 States and Union Territories and is being used to connect patients with healthcare professionals without requiring them to travel to healthcare facilities.

The platform currently supports more than 1.42 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandir spokes, 19,473 medical hubs and 901 online OPDs. It has 2,41,923 registered healthcare providers and is available in 15 languages, including English and 14 Indian languages. eSanjeevani is facilitating approximately 2.5–3 lakh consultations every day, while its highest single-day utilisation has reached 6,30,315 consultations.

The utilisation data also indicates significant adoption among women and older citizens. Women account for 57.14% of total eSanjeevani utilisation, while 40.15% of consultations are availed by people aged 46 years and above. Senior citizens aged 60 years and above account for 16.25% of consultations.

The figures highlight the potential of telemedicine to reduce travel and logistical barriers, particularly for people living in rural, remote and underserved areas. eSanjeevani has also been upgraded with emerging technologies. The platform now incorporates an AI-powered Clinical Decision Support System (AI-CDSS) designed to assist healthcare providers during consultations and support clinical decision-making.

The AI-based system has received national recognition with a Gold Award under the National Awards for e-Governance 2026. The service has additionally been integrated with Emergency Response Support System (ERSS)-112, creating stronger links between emergency response services and remote medical expertise.

The telemedicine service is now moving beyond primary healthcare by enabling specialist OPD consultations through premier government medical institutions. Patient-to-doctor teleconsultation services for selected specialities have already been rolled out at AIIMS Jodhpur, AIIMS Jammu and AIIMS Patna. The initiative is intended to allow patients to access specialist medical expertise remotely while reducing the need for long-distance travel and waiting at tertiary-care facilities.

The government plans to progressively expand the facility to other premier institutions, including AIIMS, JIPMER and PGIMER Chandigarh. eSanjeevani is a Made-in-India digital health solution developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), with C-DAC Mohali providing technological development and engineering support.

With the milestone of 50 crore consultations, the platform has evolved from a hub-and-spoke telemedicine service into a large-scale national digital healthcare platform connecting patients with healthcare providers across different levels of care.

The government said the continued expansion of eSanjeevani is aimed at reducing geographical barriers, strengthening continuity of care and supporting the broader objective of Universal Health Coverage.
