The University Grants Commission (UGC) came into existence on 28th December, 1953 and became a statutory Organization of the Government of India by an Act of Parliament in 1956, for the coordination,determination and maintenance of standards of teaching, examination and research in university education. From ancient Bharat to modern India, higher education has always occupied a place of prominence in Indian history. The CCRS is the Apex body in India for formulation, co-ordination, development and promotion of research in Siddha. The Council carries out its activities and function through its network of 5 Institutes/Units located in Chennai, Puducherry, Thiruvananthapuram, Palayamkottai and Mettur dam. There is also an attractive performance based time-bound In-situ promotion scheme and special allowance for “Group - A” Medical Doctors and Non-Medical Scientists of this Council.
