Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) is a not-for-profit Section 8, Schedule B, Public Sector Enterprise, under Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India as an Interface Agency to strengthen and empower the emerging Biotech enterprise to undertake strategic research and innovation, addressing nationally relevant product development needs.

The mandate of the Institute is to address the reproductive health issues of national and global relevance. The institute was established with an objective to develop novel and efficacious modalities for fertility regulation through research and thereby assist the government in its mission to stem the population boom. In the past four decades, however, the institute has grown beyond the mandate with which it was entrusted at the time of its genesis.

Zydus Lifesciences Limited (including its subsidiaries/ affiliates, hereafter referred to as Zydus) has received final approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to market Dapsone Gel, 7.5%, (USRLD : Aczone® Gel 7.5%). 

Dapsone Gel is used to treat acne and will be manufactured at the group’s topical manufacturing facility at Changodar, Ahmedabad (India). 

Dapsone Gel, 7.5% had annual sales of USD 35.8 mn in the United States (IQVIA MAT March 24).
