Established in 1889, the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) is one of the premier research institutions dedicated to livestock research and development of the region. The institute with faculty strength of more than 275 has a major mandate of research, teaching, consultancy and technology transfer activities. Today, the institute with its deemed to be university status contributes immensely to human resource development in the discipline of veterinary sciences with skills and knowledge necessary for the challenges of the new millennium. It awards degrees to master and doctoral programmes in more than 20 disciplines of veterinary and animal sciences, livestock products technology, basic sciences and extension education. To impart continuing education to field veterinarians, the institute also conducts diploma courses in veterinary preventive medicine, animal husbandry, veterinary biological products, animal reproduction, poultry husbandry, medicine and surgery, zoo and wild animal health care and management, meat and meat products technology.

Post: Research Associate, Senior Research Fellow

Applications are invited for the position of one Research Associate on purely temporary basis to work in DBT funded project entitled “Improving pig production and productivity through integration of conventional and biotechnological interventions for better livelihood of the SC/ST community”.

Essential Qualification: Ph.D. in Biotechnology/ Animal Genetics or M.Sc. in these disciplines with minimum three year research experience evidenced by publication and work experience certificate.


Desirable qualification: A minimum of three year research experience as RA/ SRF (in addition to that mentioned for MSc degree holder under Essential qualification) in animal biotechnology; well versed with the operation area (i.e. Lakhimpur khere) with the good communication skill; at least three publications in first authorship

Nature of job: The project involves laboratory as well as field work. Laboratory work will involve biotechnological interventions for pig production enhancement, while field work will involve survey, distribution of germplasm, technical support to farmers and follow up in the operational area i.e. Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh routinely, even in odd hours.


Total emoluments: Rs 23000 plus HRA @ 29 % as per DBT norms

Age: Maximum 35 years (relaxable to SC/ST/Women/OBC as per GOI rule)

Tenure and condition of the position: The position is purely temporary and will be filled on contractual basis for a period till completion (likely date of completion on 13.02.2016) / termination of the project whichever is earlier. There is no provision of re-engagement after termination of the project and IVRI/ ICAR will have No liability, whatsoever, for this position. PI will have the exclusive right to terminate the RA due to unsatisfactory performance without assigning any reason.

Selection procedure: The eligible candidate may appear directly in a “Walk-in Interview” on 10.05.2013 at 11.00 am in the Division of Animal Genetics, IVRI, Izatnagar. However, the candidates may send their detailed Bio-data along with a color passport size photo to the PI of the project. Candidates should be required to furnish all the testimonials in original at the time of interview. It may please be noted that no TA/DA will be given.
