The National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS) is an autonomous institution of Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, for a mandate of basic research, teaching & training, and as a national repository for cell lines/hybridomas etc. The Centre is located in the midst of academically enriched environment of Savitribai Phule Pune University Campus, Pune. NCCS invites applications for following posts on various extramural projects purely on temporary basis.

Project Associate - I

Desirable Experience : A minimum of one year research experience using model organisms/systems, molecular biology, cell biology and/or experience working with Drosophila, including genetic and behavioural experiments.

Desirable Experience : Position 1: Basic experience in microbial cloning, plasmid handling, and gene expression studies. Should be able to perform routine checks using HPLC/GC- MS outputs.
Position 2 : Hands-on exposure to microbial cultivation, media preparation, and small-scale fermentation.
Position 3 : Familiarity with genome/transcriptome data handling and use of basic bioinformatics tools. Should be able to assist in data curation, sequence analysis, and database entry tasks.

Expertise in genetic engineering, metabolic pathway reconstruction, and molecular cloning, with exposure to transformation systems, promoter optimization, and vector design for functional expression in diverse hosts.

Desirable Experience : Position 1: Experience in microbial genome editing and pathway engineering to construct optimized chassis strains. Capable of designing and validating synthetic circuits with direct metabolite confirmation using analytical tools.
Position 2: Proven skills in fermentation design, scale-up strategies, and real-time process optimization in bioreactors. Hands-on ability to maximize enzyme yields through controlled cultivation and statistical design approaches. Experience in handling HPLC and GC-MS is plus.
Position 3: Proficiency in developing and curating genomic/ transcriptomic databases to map enzyme functions and pathways. Ability to integrate multi- omics datasets with predictive models for strain selection and future improvements.

ONLINE INTERVIEW DATE

Incomplete applications will be summarily rejected. No communications in this regard will be made.
The Online interviews are scheduled to be conducted on 13th November 2025, between 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM. The list of candidates shortlisted for the online interviews will be published on NCCS website prior to 13th November 2025 as per the schedule (Table 1). Only those candidates listed will be contacted and scheduled for the interviews. We request all shortlisted candidates to ensure availability during the scheduled hours.
In case of selection, and upon offer, the letter of joining will only be accepted after due verification of the original documents in person, failing which, the offer will be cancelled.
The duration of offer will be determined based on fund availability.
Other important Points :
1. The Director (Additional Charge), NCCS reserves the right to cancel the recruitment process, if required.
2. The prescribed educational essential qualifications and experience are the bare minimum and mere possession of same does not entitle candidates to be called for the Interviews. The Centre reserves the right to call for Interviews only those candidates who in its opinion are likely to be suitable.
3. Candidates not having Final / Provisional Degree certificate as per the Essential qualification signed by the Institutional/ University Competent authority are not eligible to apply.
4. The above advertised positions are filled up purely on temporary basis for the limited time on the extramural projects funded by various funding agencies. The position will automatically co¬terminus on the completion of the candidate’s tenure. The appointed person shall have no claim of appointment/absorption in funding agency or in NCCS, Pune.
5. Fellowship/Emoluments: Emoluments to the research personnel engaged under project will be made in accordance with the sanction order or latest O.M from DST, whichever the case may be.
6. Age relaxation will be considered as on 03/11/2025. Age relaxation will be 5 years in case of Women/SC/ST/PH candidates and 3 years in case of OBC candidates as per Government of India rules. OBC candidates must produce latest/valid non-creamy layer certificate.
7. Requests for age relaxation will be considered only as per the provisions outlined in Clause no. 06 under other Important Points of the General Instructions; no exceptions will be made beyond this.
8. No TA/DA will be admissible for attending the interview.
9. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any influence will be treated as disqualification for the post.
10. The posts advertised shall be need based without any commitment for its filling.
11. Selected candidates will have to join duty within 15 days of the receipt of offer of appointment.
