The Government of India, through the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), and based on the recommendation of Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, decided to create five undergraduate science universities. One of them is located at Kolkata and was started from 2006. Named as the INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE EDUCATION AND RESEARCH (IISER), these IISERs are designed to reach the prestigious position in the global setting that IISc, IIMs and IITs presently enjoy.

Research Associate/Postdoctoral position is available through SERB project entitled “SYNTHESIS OF THE OLIGOSACCHARIDES RELATED TO THE REPEATING UNITS OF THE O-ANTIGENS FROM E. coli O158, O36 AND O174 AND FURTHER VACCINE DESIGNING (SB/S1/OC- 48/2013)” to work under the supervision of Dr. Balaram Mukhopadhyay in the Sweet Lab, Department of Chemical Sciences, IISER Kolkata.
Brief Project Description: Chemical synthesis of biologically relevant oligosaccharides through rational protecting group manipulations and suitable glycosylation techniques. Coupling of the synthetic oligosaccharides with suitable linkers and immobilization on carrier proteins to generate potential synthetic vaccine candidate.
Experience Required: The candidate should have sound knowledge and experience in synthetic organic chemistry with particular emphasis on carbohydrate chemistry. Experience of making functionalized monosaccharide derivatives and capability of performing glycosylation reactions are essential.
Tenure: The position is available for EIGHT months tentatively starting from February 2017.

Desirable Qualification: (1) Experience of synthetic carbohydrate chemistry ( with published research papers in the field); (2) Minimum ONE year postdoctoral experience after the completion of Ph.D.; (3) Experience in handling NMR, Mass spectrometer ( ESI and MALDI-TOF), UV-Vis, IR, Fluorescence.
