Opportunity for PhD, MPharm, MSc candidates at National Institute of Biomedical Genomics

BRIC-National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) Kalyani is an Institute of Government of India, Ministry of Science & Technology, Department of Biotechnology. The Institute has created the necessary physical infrastructure and critical platform technologies to support research, translation and training in biomedical genomics. Applications are invited for the position of Project Linked Person for extramural projects to be executed by the BRIC-National Institute of Biomedical Genomics, Kalyani. Selected applicants will be appointed initially for one year. The tenure of appointment may be extended depending on performance and availability of funds.

Project Title : IndiaCAN-Twin: Towards AI-Powered Digital Twin Platform for Early Detection and Personalized Care in Indian Oral Cancer.

Research Description : Oral cancer represents a critical public health probelm in India, accounting for nearly one-third of the global cancer disease burden and consistently ranking as the leading cancer among Indian males. Predominantly manifesting as gingivo-buccal oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) driven by widespread smokeless tobacco and areca nut consumption, the disease is frequently detected at late stages, resulting in poor clinical outcomes and substantial therapeutic resistance. Leveraging multi-omics profiling, longitudinal cohorts, and computational genomics pipelines established at NIBMG, this DBT-funded collaborative initiative with IIT Kharagpur aims to integrate multi-modal high-throughput genomics with artificial intelligence and digital pathology. The project seeks to build predictive Bio-AI frameworks to dissect tumor heterogeneity, track metastatic transitions, and discover clinically actionable diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for Indian oral cancer patients.

Project Scientist I

Consolidated Remuneration [INR] per month : 56,000 + 27% HRA
Essential Qualifications : Doctoral Degree in Science or Master's Degree in Engineering or Technology from a recognized University or equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications :
1. Expert in developing data analytical pipelines and tools for big data analysis and interpretations of genomics and transcriptomics data.
2. Experience in AI/ML model development.
3. Experience in Python or R.
4. Good knowledge in Linux.
Nature of Duty :
1. Multi-omics data integration.
2. Process and make data AI-ready.
3. AI model testing and critically assess the performance.
4. High throughput data analysis and interpretation.

Research Associate I
Consolidated Remuneration [INR] per month : 58,000 + 27% HRA
Essential Qualifications : Ph.D./MD/MS/MDS or equivalent degree or having 3 years of research, teaching and design and development experience after MVSc/M.Pharm/ME/M.Tech with at least one research paper in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal.
Desirable Qualifications :
1. Documented experience in cell culture, multi-omics data generation (library preparation, sequencing), cell culture and functional/molecular biology assays.
2. Candidates with demonstrated experience in molecular cloning, CRISPR-Cas9 based assays etc. will be preferred.
3. Experience in developing data analytical pipelines and tools for big data analysis and interpretations of genomics and transcriptomics data.
Nature of Duty :
1. Performing wet lab-based molecular biology/functional validation assays.
2. Performing mammalian cell culture-based assays.
3. Assisting in performing multi-omics data generation (library preparation, sequencing).
4. Report writing.

Principal Project Associate

Essential Qualifications :
1. Master's Degree in Natural or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine from a recognised University or equivalent; and eight years' experience in Research and Development in Industrial and Academic Institutions or Science and Technology Organisations and Scientific activities and services.
OR
2. Doctoral Degree in Science / Engineering / Technology / Pharma / MD / MS from a recognized University or equivalent; and four years' experience in Research and Development in Industrial and Academic Institutions or Science and Technology Organisations and Scientific activities and service.
Desirable Qualifications :
1. Experience in developing data analytical pipelines and tools for big data analysis and interpretations of genomics and transcriptomics data.

Desirable Qualifications :
1. Documented experience in cell culture, multi-omics data generation (library preparation, sequencing).
2. Experience in cell culture and functional/molecular biology assays.
Nature of Duty :
1. Performing wet lab-based molecular biology / functional validation assays.
2. Maintenance of biosamples in biorepository, record keeping.
3. Inventory management.
4. Record keeping and Report writing.

Project Associate I

Consolidated Remuneration [INR] per month : 31,000 + 27% HRA**
Essential Qualifications :
1. Master's Degree in Natural or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine from a recognized University or equivalent.
2. CSIR-UGC (NET) /LS or GATE or equivalent National level examinations conducted by central govt agencies.
Desirable Qualifications :
1. Experience in omics data analysis.
2. Experience in AI/ML.
3. Experience in Linux, Python or R.
OR
1. Candidates with hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology assays will be preferred.
Nature of Duty :
1. High throughput data QC, analysis and multi-omics data integration.

4. Record keeping and Report writing.

** For Project Associate-I, If no suitable candidate is found (point no. 2), then the candidate may be given Rs. 25,000/- + HRA for others who do not fall under 2 above [Essential Education Qualification].
This position is contractual, and appointments will be initially for one year, which is extendable depending upon performance, availability of funds and requirements of the project.
