The National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) is an Institute of Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. This is the first institution in India explicitly devoted to research, training, translation & service and capacity-building in Biomedical Genomics. It is located in Kalyani, West Bengal, India, near Kolkata.
Project Title : Expansion of INSACOG - Wastewater Surveillance of SARS-CoV-2, Emerging Pathogens and Antimicrobial Resistance through Genomics-Based Methods
BRIC-NIBMG was an important core laboratory and integral partner of Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Consortium (INSACOG) from its establishment during the COVID-19 pandemic, December, 2020. It has established a nationwide network of sequencing laboratories for SARS-CoV-2 genomic surveillance in phase I and expanded to include Sewage Surveillance for setting an early alarm system for SARS-CoV-2 community infection and Hospital Network Study for understanding the the clinical course, severity, risk factors and outcomes of patients affected with various strains of SARS-CoV-2, in phase II. Now INSACOG is expanding beyond SARS-CoV-2 to set a pan-India surveillance system for all emerging, known and priority pathogens (both viral and bacterial) to establish nationwide baseline information for viral and bacterial pathogens along with their AMR capacity and setting an early warning system for any disease surge and aid in identifying variants of concern, facilitating timely updates for vaccines and therapeutics. This multi-institutional project has been funded through Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), under Grand Challenges India program.

Essential Qualifications : PhD. in Life Science with experience in managing large multi centric projects
Desirable Qualifications : Experience (minimum 1 year) in managing large, multicenter projects.
Nature of Duty : Overall coordination of all aspects of this multi-institutional project and liaising with project teams at BRIC-NIBMG and other partner institutes. Maintaining strict adherence to timelines and punctuality are important. Must help expedite completion of projects to ensure that appropriate turn-around goals are met. Oversee project updates, prepare professional reports and presentations based on literature surveys and project updates, and oversee laboratory records

Consolidated Remuneration [INR] per month : 56,000 + 27% HRA
Essential Qualifications : PhD in Life Science with experience in genomics / bioinformatics
Age limit : 35 yrs
Desirable Qualifications : Experience in database handling and web-program development. Experience in Unix, R and biostatistics. Peer reviewed publications in the relevant field.
Nature of Duty : Analysis of genome sequence data – metagenome, viral genome bacterial genome, report preparation and data curation and modeling. Establishment of a centralized data analysis and reporting system.
Project Associate II - 2 [Experimental (1) and Bioinformatics analysis (1)]
Consolidated Remuneration [INR] per month : 35,000 + 27% HRA with NET / GATE Or 28,000 + 27% HRA without NET / GATE
Essential Qualifications : i) MSc in Life Science / Bioinformatics or related discipline
ii) 2 years’ experience in research and development in industrial and academic institutions or science and technology organizations and scientific activities and services
Age limit : 35 yrs
Desirable Qualifications : Experimental Experience (minimum 1 year) in molecular biology / bacteriology and hands on next generation sequencing
Nature of Duty : Experimental Bioinformatics : Experience in database handling and web-program mining. Experience in Unix, R and biostatistics. Experimental: Environmental sample collection, nucleic acid extraction, RT-PCR, DD-PCR, isolation of AMR pathogens, Antibiotic susceptibility testing, Antibiotic concentration measurement and genome sequencing. Bioinformatics: Analysis of genome sequence data – metagenome, viral genome bacterial genome, report preparation and data upload.

This position is contractual, and appointments will be initially for one year, which is extendable depending upon performance and requirements of the project.
