Vacancy for Postdoctoral Fellow or Senior Research Assistant at Tata Medical Center

The Tata Medical Center (TMC) is a not for profit dedicated cancer hospital based in the New Town development in Kolkata. It is one of its kind in eastern India. The Tata Translational Cancer Research Centre (TTCRC) is a research institute within TMC. TTCRC is creating a stimulating environment where clinicians, scientists and industry can work together to develop indigenous solutions for patients with cancer in India. The research laboratories are housed over 3 floors in a building adjacent to the main hospital and house state of the art facilities. Currently over 40 people are working within the facility.

Post : Senior Research Assistant / Postdoctoral Fellow

The Position
In this position, you will work as part of the Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) monitoring group at TTCRC. The group works directly with the Department of Cytogenetics & Genomics at Tata Medical Center and has close links with Tata Consultancy Services Life Sciences Division. There are ongoing national and international collaborative studies. It has a dedicated laboratory facility equipped with Illumina, Sanger and Nanopore sequencers and is an internationally accredited centre for the minimal residual disease detection in childhood ALL. A dedicated informatics supports data analyses. This group is focussed on monitoring MRD for childhood ALL patients using both PCR and high-throughput technologies. Your primary responsibility will be to continue the existing workflow, and to further optimize the high-throughput platform that includes hands-on experiments and data analysis. This will involve working closely with the hospital’s multidisciplinary clinical service, the biorepository unit and with colleagues in the ALL cancer biology group. The post holder will have a designated desk and computer.

Minimum required qualifications / experience
(a) MSc in Biological Sciences with at least 3-4 years of experience (or a fresh PhD) in Molecular Biology and Genomics
(b) Expertise in DNA, RNA extraction, qPCR, Sanger Sequencing, NGS (desirable)
(c) Other skills: MS Office, Data management, Data analysis tools (PRISM)

(d) Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
(e) Mentoring junior members and visiting interns of the team

Appointment and reporting
Appointment to the position will initially be for 3 (three) years. The first year is probationary. Confirmation in the position and progression to year 2 and 3 will be subjected to satisfactory review of performance through periodic appraisals. Appraisals will also determine salary increments and promotions. The consolidated monthly salary would be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful applicant will be managed by the team lead and will report to the Director TTCRC.
