Post : Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

Applications from Indian Citizens are invited for Junior Research Fellow (JRF) positions under the project RIN4002-SBS-Basic Research in the Schools of Biological Sciences, NISER, Bhubaneswar, funded by the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.

Essential Qualifications : M.Sc. degree in the relevant area of Life Sciences with at least 55% or equivalent GPA*. Candidates should have qualified in at least one National Level Examination, i.e. CSIR-UGC-NET/GATE/DBT-BET, valid for the current year. 
*Candidates with a GPA in a qualifying degree may need to produce the conversion note (in case it is not mentioned in their mark sheet) from their institution towards the percentage calculation. 

Research Area : Deciphering the role of mycobacterial membrane vesicles in host membrane modulation. 

Desirable : The ideal candidate with hands-on experience with relevant bench work, demonstrating a strong foundation in experimental research are desirable. Proficiency in confocal microscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy will be preferred, as these techniques are integral to analysing and visualising molecular interactions. Prior experience in host-pathogen interactions will also be considered. 


Laboratory Description : The biophysical and biochemical investigation of the mechanism of membrane deformation by interaction/assembly of various interacting proteins and pathogenic carriers will be addressed via an inter-disciplinary approach involving experimental tools and concepts from Microbiology, Biophysics and Cell Biology. 

Fellowship : As per existing Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) rules, the Government of India is coterminous with the project. The fellowship amount is Rs. 37,000/- per month, and HRA will be paid if accommodation is unavailable on campus, and the Contingency grant will be spent as per the rules.

2. A detailed academic CV, list of publications, relevant experience certificate(s), if any, and names of two academic referees. 
No recommendation letters are needed at this stage. 
3. A duly filled-in application form is given on pages 2-3 of this advertisement, along with copies of all the Educational Certificates.


The candidates who are short-listed based on their CV, research statement, and letters of reference could be interviewed either in person or through video-conferencing before the final selection is made. The position is available and will be filled immediately as and when we find suitable candidates. The last date of the application is 23th May 2025.
