The National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS) is an autonomous institution of Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, for a mandate of basic research, teaching & training, and as a national repository for cell lines/hybridomas etc. The Centre is located in the midst of academically enriched environment of Savitribai Phule Pune University Campus, Pune. NCCS invites applications for following posts on various extramural projects purely on temporary basis.

Research Fellowships and Project Associate

Project Associate - I

Name of the Project : VAPB at membrane contact sites: ALS-FTD at the crossroads of ER stress, proteostasis, lipid homeostasis and inflammation.
Name of the PI : Dr. Gaurav Das
Essential Qualification & Experience : Master’s Degree in Natural or Agricultural Sciences / MVSc or bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine from a recognized University or equivalent.
Desirable Experience : Experience in model system biology (Fly, Worm etc...) or some background in computation, programming, or bioinformatics.
Project Tenure : Up to 28/02/2029
Total Monthly Emoluments : i. Rs. 31,000/- + HRA to Scholars who are selected through
(a) National Eligibility Tests - CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE or
(b) A selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions.
ii. Rs. 25,000/- + HRA for others who do not fall under (i) above.
Age limit : Not more than 35 years as on date of Interview.

Project Research Scientist - II (Non-Medical)

Name of the PI : Dr. Umasankar K. Perunthottathu
Essential Qualification & Experience : Post Graduate Degree*, including the integrated PG degrees, with three years post qualification Experience.
*(Microbiology / Life Sciences /Biotechnology / Biomedical Science/Biochemistry/Plant Biology/Animal Biology)
OR
PhD in any branch of Life Sciences
Note : As per the project requirement, the candidates holding degrees other than in the above fields will not be considered for the said project.
Desirable Experience : 1. Excellent skills in genetics, molecular biology and protein biochemistry.
2. Experience in tissue culture, gene-editing and advanced microscopy is advantageous.
3. Track record of high-quality research in the form of peer reviewed publications, competitive fellowships etc.
4. Prior postdoctoral research experience in reputed research laboratories is desirable.
Project Tenure : Up to 04.02.2027 (extendable for two more years subjected to approval by the funding agency)
Total Monthly Emoluments : Rs. 67,000/- + HRA
Age limit : Not more than 40 years as on date of Interview.

Project Technical Support - III

Desirable Experience : Experience in handling mammalian cell culture, PCR, cloning, expression and purification of recombinant proteins, western blot, immunofluorescence, cell- based assays etc.
Project Tenure : Up to 04.02.2027 (extendable for two more years subjected to approval by the funding agency)
Total Monthly Emoluments : Rs. 28,000/- + HRA

Project Associate - I

Essential Qualification & Experience : Four years Bachelor’s Degree in Natural or Agricultural Sciences/Master’s Degree in Natural or Agricultural Sciences/BVSc. /B.Pharm or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine from a recognized university or equivalent.
Desirable Experience : Experience in molecular biology, ELISA, mice handling and all culture is required. Animal handling is desirable not essential.
Project Tenure : Up to 05.08.2028
Total Monthly Emoluments : i. Rs. 37,000/- + HRA to Scholars who are selected through
(a) National Eligibility Tests - CSIR-UGC NET including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship) or GATE or
(b) A selection process through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions.
ii. Rs. 30,000/- + HRA for others who do not fall under (i) above.

Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

Essential Qualification & Experience : Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science or Graduate / Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course selected through a process described through any one of the following:
A. Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Tests - CSIR- UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and/or GATE.
B. The selection process through National Level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER etc.
Desirable Experience : Candidate should have some experience with the following techniques:
1. Cell culture handling and subcellular fractionation of organelles.
2. Protein purification using Affinity & gel-exclusion chromatography.
3. In-vivo and In-vitro protein-protein interaction and western blotting.
4. Gene cloning and RT-PCR.
Project Tenure : Up to 31/08/2028
Total Monthly Emoluments : Rs. 31,000/- + HRA (Enhancement of fellowship subjected to DBT approval)

2. Experience in Mass spectrometry-based proteomic data analysis and proteomic-based sample preparation.
3. Work experience in Drosophila model system would be preferred.

WALK IN INTERVIEW DATE :
Walk-in interviews are scheduled to be held from 9.30 am to 06.00 pm on 7th April, 2026. In case of more candidates appear for the interview on 7th April, 2026, 8th April, 2026 will be kept as a back-up date.
Please note that no new candidate applications will be accepted or considered for evaluation for
interviews on 8th April, 2026. This date is reserved strictly as backup day in case of any spill over from the main interview day, which is 7th April, 2026.

1. NCCS will not be providing any accommodation. Candidates are advised to make their own travel and lodging arrangements in advance.
2. Under no circumstances will the requests for online interviews be considered in place of Walk-in interviews. Such email requests will not be addressed at all.

In case of selection, and upon offer, the letter of joining will only be accepted after due verification of the original documents in person, failing which, the offer will be cancelled.
The duration of offer will be determined based on fund availability.

Other important Points :
1. The Director (Additional Charge), NCCS reserves the right to cancel the recruitment process, if required.
2. The prescribed educational essential qualifications and experience are the bare minimum and mere possession of same does not entitle candidates to be called for the Interviews. The Centre reserves the right to call for Interviews only those candidates who in its opinion are likely to be suitable.
3. All the experience gained shall be preferably from the Govt. Organisations or from an institution of repute. Experience should have been gained after acquiring the minimum essential qualification.
4. Candidates not having Final / Provisional Degree certificate as per the Essential qualification signed by the Institutional/ University Competent authority are not eligible to apply.
5. The above advertised positions are filled up purely on temporary basis for the limited time on the extramural projects funded by various funding agencies. The position will automatically co¬terminus on the completion of the candidate’s tenure. The appointed person shall have no claim of appointment/absorption in funding agency or in NCCS, Pune.
6. Fellowship/Emoluments: Emoluments to the research personnel engaged under project will be made in accordance with the sanction order issued by the funding agency.
7. Age relaxation will be considered as on the date of interview. Age relaxation will be 5 years in case of Women/SC/ST/PH candidates and 3 years in case of OBC candidates as per Government of India rules. OBC candidates must produce latest/valid non-creamy layer certificate.
8. No TA/DA will be admissible for attending the interview.
9. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any influence will be treated as disqualification for the post.
10. The posts advertised shall be need based without any commitment for its filling.
