Applications are invited for post of Consultant at ICMR Bioethics Unit

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, is the apex body in India for the formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research. Established in 1911, it is one of the oldest medical research bodies in the world.

Post : Consultant – Medical / Non-Medical

Applications are invited for the posts to be filled upon purely time bound contractual basis for a period of one year at ICMR Bioethics Unit, Bengaluru.

Number of Vacancy : One (01) 

Essential Qualification : Medical : Retired Government employee with essential requisite educational qualification and who were in the regular Pay Level-10 and above, having at least 10 years of relevant experience in the required specialization 
Note : 1) Ph.D will be considered as 4 years experience (irrespective of the duration taken to complete the degree. 
2) MD/MS or equivalent to be considered as 3 years experience. 
3) MPH will not be considered as any experience. 
Non-Medical : M.Sc (in Life science)/MPH/PhD with atleast 10 years of Post qualification experience. 
Note : 1) Ph.D will be considered as 4 years’ experience (irrespective of the duration taken to complete the degree. 
OR Retired Government employee with essential requisite educational qualification and who were in the regular Pay Level-10 and above, having at least 10 years of relevant experience in the required specialization.

Age Limit : Minimum of 40 Years and Maximum upto 70 years.

Consolidated salary : Rs.1,00,000.00 – 1,80,000 Per month
(The emoluments shall be fixed as per recommendation of selection committee – Ref. ICMR OM dated 29-11-24 Para 7.4)

Desirable Qualification & Experience
i) Qualifications/Training/Experience in Research Ethics or Bioethics 
ii) Good writing / Communication skills / Editorial work / Related Publications.
iii) Knowledge of Computer applications. 
iv) Working experience with an Ethics Committee. 
v) Knowledge about National or International Ethical Guidelines.
Experience of conducting or working in a clinical trial/ Biomedical Health Research/ Public Health Research

Nature of Duties : To co-ordinate and carry out the activities of ICMR Bioethics Unit which include: - Developing of ethics policy/ guidance on specific areas; capacity building initiatives; use of online tools and methods for bioethics training; organize and conduct National and International conferences/webinar courses or seminars on bioethics; development of bioethics course curriculum for students; researchers and ethics committees; conduct survey / research related to bioethics and dissemination of relevant information through publications in Bioethics; Collaboration with National/ International institutes for research in the area of Ethics; Networking and communication with stakeholders in the area of Ethics.

Duration : Initial term of engagement will be for one year and subsequent extension, if any, will be considered, on case-to-case basis depending upon the performance and job requirements.

Terms and Conditions 
1. Interested and eligible candidates may download the application form from icmr.gov.in or ethics.ncdirindia.org. Submit the duly filled form with a recent passport-size photograph and self-attested educational and experience certificates to icmriburecruitment@gmail.com by 18th March., 2026. Attach all documents in chronological order. Submit the original completed application form on the day of the walk-in interview, i.e., 24th March., 2026. 
2. Incomplete applications, without photograph or without copies of relevant certificates will not be considered. 
3. Qualification and experience should be in relevant discipline/ field and from a reputed institution/ organization recognized by relevant authority. Experience shall count from the date of completion of minimum educational qualification. 
4. Application received after 5.30 PM dated 18th March., 2026 will not be considered. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for personal interview, no correspondence will be entertained in this regard 
5. Persons already in regular time scale service under any Government Department / Organizations are not eligible. 
6. No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in examination/test/and interview. Any canvassing by or on behalf of the candidates or to bring political or other outside influence with regard to selection/recruitment shall be disqualification. 
7. Submission of any incorrect or false information at any stage of the interview or personal discussion. Process shall result in immediate disqualification of the candidature. 
8. Mere fulfilling the essential qualification/ experience does not guarantee selection. 
9. The appointment is for a period of one year. Extension will be given depending upon the job requirements. 
10. Age will be reckoned on date of walk- in interview 


11. The said posts are purely temporary.
12. The appointment will be made on the basis of results of interview / personal discussion. 
13. Selected candidate will not have any right to claim for regular appointment in the Council. 
14. Selected candidate must join for duties immediately/within one week from the date of offer of engagement. 
15. The DG-ICMR / Head, ICMR Bioethics Unit reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of posts or cancel the recruitment or re-advertise the posts, without assigning any reason thereof, no further correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
