Amity Research Fellowships for full-time PhD Programmes

Admissions to Ph.D. programs at Amity University campuses are conducted twice a year, for January and July sessions. A Ph.D. program is offered in two modes- Full time and Part time and not in a distance learning mode. Hence, coursework, participation in various interactions, submission of progress reports through presentations etc. on regular basis is mandatory during the program. A Full-time Ph.D. scholar shall mean a candidate devoting full time for completing the requirements of the program and a Part- time Ph.D. scholar shall mean a candidate who is devoting a part of his time towards the pursuit of the program while discharging his official / employment obligations.

Ph.D. Full time is of minimum 3 years for those joining Ph.D. after a master’s program and is of minimum 4 years for those joining Ph.D. directly after a minimum 4 year Bachelor’s program, wherever such an eligibility is allowed.

Ph.D. Part time is of minimum 3.5 years and there is no direct admission in the same based on bachelor’s program.

Maximum duration of PhD in case of all is 6 years.

Part time Candidates must ensure they have adequate facilities/ infrastructural set up at their work- place which is conducive to research. While Main guide will be provided at Amity, there will be a requirement to have an External Co-Guide at the organisation. External Co-Guide will however be appointed only after his/her profile is approved by the university authorities.

Amity encourages interdisciplinary research and exchange of ideas and knowledge in various related fields. Consequently, scholars may appoint a Co-Guide from outside Amity University, as per university rules. The main Guide for the scholar during the Ph.D. program will be from Amity University, appointed as per the research topic and Guide availability. Ph.D. Full time enthusiasts have the scope to work as research fellows in the various ongoing prestigious research projects in the university.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission :
Candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. Program, whether full time or part time, shall have to possess requisite percentage of marks / grade point average in qualifying examination as indicated below:
• The required minimum qualification for admission to a Ph.D Program is a) Master’s from a recognised Indian or Foreign University/ Institute in the relevant field with minimum 55% marks or Equivalent CGPA OR
b) A four years Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised Indian or Foreign University/ Institute in the relevant field with minimum 75% marks or Equivalent CGPA.
Direct admission to Ph.D. in this category will be in Full Time mode.
• As per UGC regulations 2022, Section 3(1)(i), a relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade is permissible for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
• Applicants who have successfully completed their first year degree course (Undergraduate course) by 04/June/1986, irrespective of the duration, shall be treated at par with those who have completed a three year first degree course. Those who hold a two year first degree and had enrolled for this course after 04/June/1986, will be required to undergo a further one year bridge course. UGC notification dated 17/August/2015
• Applicants with Chartered Accountancy (CA) Qualification from 'The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India' (ICAI)/ Cost and Works Accountancy of ICWAI/ Company Secretary of ICSI with a minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade may be considered eligible for admission to Ph.D. Programs in the relevant field.
• Foreign/ NRI applicants / Applicants with a Masters’ degree from a foreign university must apply with an equivalence certificate of AIU along with the Online Application Form.

Exemption from PhD Entrance Test/Written Test
Candidates who have successfully cleared an All India National Level Competitive Examination or NET (viz. UGC / CSIR -NET in Category 1,2 or 3, ICMR- JRF/SRF, ICAR-AICE-JRF/SRF (PhD), GATE, GPAT, DST – INSPIRE, DBT-JRF etc) and have cleared it in the relevant field, shall be exempted from Amity’s PET (PhD Entrance Test) as per the Validity of the score/result mentioned in their certificate. They will be required to appear in the Interview round only. For consideration of exemption, they must timely submit scanned copy of the official certificate, along with the application form or via mail, but not later than two days prior to their PET date. Only exempted Candidates will receive a message of exemption on their admission microsite/ admit card. Those who do not receive such a message will be required to appear in APET (Amity’s Ph.D. Entrance Test).

PhD Scholar Category
An Indian candidate applying for admission to the Ph.D. Program shall apply under one of the categories given below. The PhD mode option (Full time/Part time) permitted against each category is also mentioned.
• Sponsored Candidate: Sponsored candidates getting Government / Semi Govt. / Private or other Scholarships/ Fellowships /stipends, who apply for admission through the sponsoring organizations. (PhD Full/ Part time based on employment status)
• Regular Self - Financed Candidate : students, self- employed or other working / non-working candidates. (PhD Full/ Part time based on employment status)
• Corporate Research Scholar : Candidates working with reputed organizations in India and having at least ten year experience and possessing minimum prescribed academic qualifications. (PhD Part time only)
• Working Faculty outside Amity: Faculty members of other Universities /schools and recognized/ approved institutions/schools in India, possessing minimum prescribed academic qualifications.(PhD Part time only)
• Regular Academic Staff of Amity : Regular academic staff of Department/ Constituent Units of Amity University (PhD Part time only)
• Regular Non-Academic Staff of Amity : Regular member of non-academic staff of the University and its Departments/ Constituent Units who satisfies eligibility qualifications allowed to be registered for a part-time Ph.D. program. (PhD Part time only)
• Candidates working as JRF/SRF/RA in Research Projects in Amity in Research Projects in Amity University and meeting the eligibility criteria. ( PhD Full time only)
• Candidates working as JRF/SRF/RA in Organizations NOT under MoU with Amity University Uttar Pradesh. (PhD Part time only)
• Candidates who are working in reputed Labs under MoU with Amity University Uttar Pradesh. (PhD Part time only)
• Scholars who are awarded National Fellowships through National Competitive Examinations. ( PhD Full time only)
A foreign national will apply under the foreign candidate category. (PhD Full/ Part time based on employment status)

Fellowship stipend : Rs. 37,000/month (Rs. 4.44 lakhs/year)
