The St. John's Research Institute (SJRI) is a part of the St John's National Academy of Health Sciences, which is run by the CBCI Society for Medical Education. From its inception, St. John's has set before it an ideal of excellence in academic courses as well as service to society as a result of which it has truly become holistic both in its outlook and in its approach to the problems of community health. In 2000, the Academy decided that its commitment to excellence in research required the setting up of an Institute that was dedicated to the pursuit of research and capacity development in St. John's. The study aims to establish a robust monitoring and evaluation framework to assess nutrient adequacy, determinants, coverage, quality, and compliance of fortified edible oil and milk, thereby enabling evidence-based improvements in fortification programming at national and state levels.

Key Responsibilities:
Job summary :
The Research Fellow will be responsible for supporting and coordinating field-based research activities under the project- Vitamin A and D fortification Programming in India. The role involves participant recruitment, household surveys, biological specimen collection, qualitative and quantitative data collection, project coordination, and reporting activities across urban and rural field sites. The candidate should be willing to travel extensively and work closely with community stakeholders, implementation teams, district health authorities, and project investigators to ensure high-quality and timely execution of the study.
Roles and responsibilities :
• Support participant recruitment, informed consent procedures, and community-based research activities across urban and rural field sites.
• Conduct household surveys, interviews, nutritional assessments, follow-up visits, and other quantitative and qualitative data collection activities.
• Collect, process, and manage biological specimens for laboratory analysis in accordance with study protocols and ethical guidelines.
• Perform laboratory procedures and biochemical assays, including ELISA, spectrophotometry, chromatography, and related nutritional analyses.
• Ensure accurate, timely, and confidential data entry, verification, and maintenance of study databases and research records.
• Monitor data quality, identify discrepancies, and support corrective actions to maintain high research standards.
• Coordinate with field teams, implementation partners, district health authorities, and investigators for smooth project execution.
• Assist in the setup, calibration, maintenance, and inventory management of laboratory instruments, reagents, and consumables.
• Participate in field monitoring visits and supervise field-based qualitative activities such as interviews and focus group discussions.
• Prepare periodic technical reports, presentations, and project documentation, including progress updates for supervisors and stakeholders.
• Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), biosafety practices, and ethical standards during field and laboratory activities.
• Contribute to data analysis, interpretation of study findings, and preparation of research reports and publications.
• Support additional project-related activities assigned by the Principal Investigator or supervisors.

Preferred Qualifications :
• Postgraduate Degree in Life Sciences, Nutrition, Social Sciences, or Nursing from a recognized institution.
Preferred Language : English, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi
