Life Sciences Opportunity at NIRBI - Salary Rs. 70,000 pm

NIRBI moved from the rented premises at No. 3 Kyd Street to its own establishment at P-33, C.I.T. Road, Scheme XM, Beliaghata, Kolkata 700010, adjacent to the Infectious Diseases Hospital. The unique feature of this Institute is that it conducts basic research and applied clinical and epidemiological research on diarrhoeal diseases under the same roof. This Institute has its basic science set up with well equipped, modern technological facilities in different disciplines such as bacteriology, virology, parasitology, biochemistry, pathophysiology, molecular biology, electron microscopy, immunology and biochemistry.

The following project position is to be filled up on purely temporary basis for the period till 31.03.2026 on a monthly consolidated remuneration under the NACO funded ad-hoc research project entitled “HIV-Sentinel Surveillance, Regional Institute (NACO-RI)” under Dr. Alok Deb, Scientist G and P.I. of the project.

Educational Qualification : MD in Community Medicine. OR Master’s degree/Ph.D in Public Health/ Epidemiology/ Life Sciences. OR Health Care Management/ Health Administration after MBBS/ BHMS/ BDS or any other medical professional course in health Science.

Experience : 1) Minimum two years research experiences in disease surveillance/ public health management/ Epidemiology/ public health research associated with National/ State level. Experience in the field of HIV/AIDS is preferable.
2) Working knowledge of Biostatistics/ Statistical Packages (Epi Info/ SPSS etc.)/ Microsoft Office.
3) Publications in peer reviewed journal

Age : Not exceeding 68 years

Monthly Consolidated Remuneration : Rs 70,000/- (fixed)

General Terms and Conditions
1. The number of positions for Junior Consultant may vary and are tentative.
2. The position is meant for temporary on contractual basis for duration.
3. Period of Engagement: The initial term of engagement of Junior Consultant will be up to 31-3.2026.
4. Consultants would be engaged for fixed period of, on a consolidated monthly remuneration, to provide high quality services, attending to specific job, within prescribed time frame.
5. As the engagement of consultants would be on full time contract basis, he/she would not be permitted to take up and other assignment, either part time or full time, during the period of such engagement.
6. The consultant's contract is temporary and can be terminated at any time without prior notice and without providing any reason.
7. Remuneration: Consolidated emoluments of Junior Consultant will be fixed as per advertisement.
8. Cut-off date for age limit will be as on the date of walk-in-interview.
9. Minimum age for Junior Consultant would be 40 years and maximum age would be 68 years.
10. Age relaxation will be as per rules.

11. The candidates meeting the age criteria and possessing the required qualifications and experience, may submit the application along with duly self-attested photocopies of related educational documents, experience certificates on the date of walk-in-interview, failing which the candidate will not be allowed for walk-in-interview.

13. No TA/DA will be paid to attend interview / personal discussion and candidates have to arrange transport/accommodation themselves.
14. The Director-ICMR, NIRBI reserves rights to consider or reject any application/candidature at any point of time.
15. Submission of wrong or false information during the process of selection shall disqualify the candidature at any stage.
16. The persons engaged on Human Resource Positions shall not have any claim on a regular post in 1CMR or in any of its Institutes/Centers or in any Department of Government of India and their project term with breaks or without breaks in any or multiple projects will not confer any right for further assignment or transfer to any other project or appointment/absorption/regularization of service in funding agency or in ICMR. Benefits of Provident Fund, Pension Scheme, Leave Travel Concession, Medical claim, Staff Quarters and other facilities applicable to the regular staff of ICMR etc. are not admissible to the project human resource positions.
17. The Director, ICMR-NIRBI reserves the right to terminate the Junior Consultant position even during the agreed contract period or extended contract period without assigning any reason.

18. Procedure for engagement
The following procedure may be adopted for the engagement of a Junior Consultant
a) The procedure to be followed for selecting a candidate for engagement as a Consultant, in any of the disciplines, shall be within the framework of provisions contained in the General Financial Rules, 2017, and as amended from time to time.
b) A suitable candidate may be selected on the basis of experience and performance in the interview.
19. Leave entitlement
The Junior Consultant in ICMR-NIRBI are eligible for paid leave at the rates of 1.5 days for each completed month of services. Therefore, a Junior Consultant shall not draw any remuneration in case of his/her absence from work beyond authorized duration of leave. Un availed leave during the period of engagement will not be carried forward in case of renewal. Femail Employee are eligible as Maternity leave shall be as per Maternity Benefit Act of Govt, of India. However, there will be no paternity leave for male.
20. Allowance
The Junior Consultant shall not be entitled to any other perquisites like honorarium or allowances such as Dearness Allowance, Residential Telephone, Transport Facility. Residential Accommodation, Personal Staff, CGHS and Medical Reimbursement, etc.
21. Attendance and working hour/day
The working hours for the Junior Consultant will be same as regular employees of ICMR. No extra benefit will be allowed for working beyond office hours. Unauthorized absence for a continuous period of 08 days without valid reasons shall lead to automatic termination of the engagement.
22. Tax Deduction
All Applicable taxes, as per government rules and regulations, will be deducted at source.
23. The Director, ICMR-NIRBI reserves the right to cancel/modify the process at any time, at its discretion.
24. Canvassing and bringing outside influence in any form for shortlisting or employment will be treated as disqualification and the candidate will be debarred from selection process.
25. Mere fulfilling the essential qualification/experience does not guarantee for shortlisting and selection.
26. The Director, ICMR-NIRBI reserves the right to prepare/frame a panel of waitlist candidates which shall be valid for one year.
27. Candidates already in regular service under any Central/State Govt/Autonomous/Dept/PSU are not eligible to apply for this position.
