Piedmont Geriatric Hospital (PGH) is a 123-bed geropsychiatric hospital, operated by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). It is the only Virginia state facility that exclusively treats elderly persons (65+ years of age) who are in need of inpatient treatment for mental illness; meet the requirements for voluntary or involuntary admission as determined by their mental health center (CSB) and do not have a medical condition that requires priority treatment in an acute care hospital. The hospital has been accredited since 1985 by the national accrediting agency, The Joint Commission.

Job Description
The Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services (DBHDS) Nottoway Campus, Piedmont Geriatric Hospital & Virginia Center for Behavior Rehabilitation (PGH & VCBR) is recruiting for a Full Time Staff Pharmacist (Pharmacist II). The Nottoway Campus is located in Nottoway County, Virginia and is situated on 125 beautiful acres just 2 hours from the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Atlantic Ocean.  For Piedmont Geriatric Hospital & Virginia Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation, this position assists the Pharmacy Director in the overall operation of the pharmacy department with respect to the department’s organizational objectives and scope of service, while keeping within the legal limitation of the position. The position requires knowledge of the operation of a hospital pharmacy and/or long-term care pharmacy, the preparation and dispensing of medications, compounding as it pertains to the practice of pharmacy and all standards and guidelines required by the accrediting agents and the Virginia Board of Pharmacy. The candidate will have the ability to manage campus-wide resources in a professional and effective manner. The successful candidate will work directly with the Pharmacy Director to ensure that pharmacy services to patients and residents are maintained at a high level, and to help identify and implement improvement initiatives within the department.

Candidate Profile
Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy and a current unrestricted license as a Pharmacist from the Virginia Department of Health Professions

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a hospital and/or long term care pharmacy, in a psychiatric or geriatric setting.
Experience performing patient drug regimen reviews along with, consulting with physicians on drug therapy issues.
Experience with the use of automated dispensing cabinets.
Knowledge of the medication management standards of the Joint Commission.
