Job Summary
The Assistant Director is responsible for pharmacy services in our pediatric and women's hospital, approximately 350 beds. These duties include hiring, supervision and performance reviews of clinical pharmacists, residents, interns, students and technicians, providing strategic direction for the area, oversight of pharmacy distribution and clinical services, participation in health system and departmental committees and initiatives, new program development and implementation, as well as quality and performance improvement. Keys to success for this position include fostering a culture of teamwork, collaboration, exceptional personnel management skills, and clinical and distribution system thinking. This position serves as pharmacy administrator on call on a rotating basis. Approximately 10% staffing is required based on the team’s scheduling needs. Excellent written and verbal skills are also required. Pediatric, management experience, and previous residency training highly desired.

 

Responsibilities
• The person in this position will design, coordinate, measure, and adjust the clinical and distributive pharmacy services of the Children and Women's Hospital.
• Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage and oversee the clinical pharmacy services for the pediatric and women's service lines.
• Manage and oversee the distribution pharmacy services for the pediatric and women's  service lines.
• Monitor for safety and efficiency opportunities in clinical services, distribution services, inventory, and storage using LEAN tools.
• Establish opportunities for communication with team members.
• Involved in the teaching of students (pharmacy and pharmacy technicians) and residents.
• Foster employee engagement from team members.
• This position reports to the Director of Pharmacy Services.  Supervision is exercised over Pharmacists, Pharmacy Residents, Pharmacy Technicians, and students.

Candidate Profile      
• A Doctor of Pharmacy degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
• Experience in health-system leadership or completion of a pharmacy residency (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience) is necessary.
• Licensure as a Pharmacist by the State of Michigan is necessary. Possession of a state controlled substance license is necessary.
• Excellent written and verbal skills are required.

Other:
Ability to perform a variety of manual dexterity movements, including keyboarding and IV preparation, actively participating in codes.
Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English.

Desired Qualifications
Successful candidates should demonstrate the ability to work with physicians, pharmacists, information system staff, and allied health professionals from all clinical disciplines. Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are very important. Advanced degree (MS, MBA, MPH, MHA) are desired.
