TMC invites applications for post of Scientist

Conceptualized in the year 2004 as a philanthropic initiative for the Eastern and North- Eastern parts of India and the neighboring countries, the Tata Medical Centre (TMC) started operations in Kolkata on May 16, 2011. The hospital is governed by a charitable trust – Tata Medical Centre Trust. It is an integrated Oncology facility with well-trained professional staff and equipped with modern facilities and the most contemporary medical equipment. Set up at a cost of more than 500 crores, the Hospital, with a capacity of 450 beds, serves all sections of the society, with a proportion of the infrastructure earmarked for free/subsidized treatment for the underprivileged sections. The hospital provides a wide spectrum of services from diagnosis, therapy to rehabilitation and palliative support in cancer. The Institution's objective is to excel in service, education and research.

TMC invites applications for the following positions under DHR-ICMR Advanced Molecular Oncology Diagnostic Services (DIAMOnDS) proposal to set up zonal Immuno- Histochemistry, Cytogenetics and Molecular Pathology labs to provide basic as well as high- end advance diagnostic services to cancer patients and research facilities for basic, translational and clinical research

Project : DHR-ICMR Advanced Molecular Oncology Diagnostic Services (DIAMOnDS) 
Funding Agency : DHR-ICMR 
Nodal Institutional In-charge : Dr. P Arun, C.E.O., TMC Kolkata

Qualification : PhD or MSc in the relevant specialty from a recognized institution. 

Experience : PhD or MSc can apply. Wet Lab experience of minimum 2 years on Next generation sequencing (NGS) /Microarray / Real Time PCR-based assays will be preferred. 
Department : Department of Molecular Pathology 
Duration of the Employment : One year from the date of appointment, extendable yearly; maximum up to three years. Selected candidate will have to join at the earliest. The Project is likely to continue for three years with yearly extensions. Consolidated 

Salary : Rs. 87,000/- p.m.

Responsibilities : The candidate would be expected to perform routine molecular diagnostic techniques such as manual and automated DNA/RNA extraction, nucleic acid amplification tests such end point PCR, real-time PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis and sequencing (Sanger, NGS). The scientist will perform relevant bench work in areas of the diagnostic molecular pathology laboratory. This would involve working/assisting/developing various diagnostic areas of the molecular laboratory such as molecular hematology (RT-PCR, Chimerism, MPN, AML, ALL), Solid tumor molecular pathology (lung, colon, lymphoma) and HLA typing.


Academic responsibilities : Apart from the regular academic work, he/she shall be willing to assist in ongoing research projects. 

Desirable Attributes : Experience with next generation DNA/RNA sequencing (NGS), Microarray, Real Time PCR analysis, trouble shooting skills, especially ability to optimize PCR, deal with and prevent amplicon contamination and develop new in-house molecular biology assays. Computer skills, knowledge of laboratory information systems and experience with Internal Quality Control and External Quality Assurance programmers are desirable.
